I started out as a "Do Not Know, Don't Libel", swapped to "Anti", when I read the original crap, then realised that I was being taken for a fool.
I still feel awful about how easily I was taken in. This will never leave me. But it won't ever happen again. Now I would rather Defend and be proved wrong.

Nothing to spill now, Sadie. Suffice to say, it wouldn't have happened if I had read the lurid headlines in the Express less, and THOUGHT more. In those days, it never occurred to me that all those reports from Sources in the PJ were a load of merde dreamed up in some bar to suit Gonc's agenda.

If I had even read the Mail instead, with all those indepth reports about the background to Madeleine's abduction, I would have realised something was far wrong. But I didn't, I was another blind, stupid forker, which is my fault and no-one else's.

Fortunately, by early 2009 I was rethinking things anyway, as was MsMarbles, and finding out that the whole 'anti' crusade was based on lies and deceit. Top that off with reading and understanding the police files and well, the rest is history.

I still feel awful about how easily I was taken in.

I try not to beat myself up about it, Bonny, but it is always there. And accusing The PJ and Portuguese Liars is just not good enough. I should not have allowed this to happen, but I did.
I tried to redeem myself by risking abuse and banning, and it was distressing. But in the end you and MsMarbles, and latterly Bren, have done more.
They, The Forkers say that we don't consider Evidence, but in fact we do. There is more sensible debate on here than on any of their skanky Hate Sites.

Thing is, judging a whole country by one dirty cop is playing into Morais' hands; she spins the line that disliking Gonc is 'Lusophobic'. Which is like saying that, if you don't approve of Hitler, you hate all Austrians, which is obvious nonsense.

We know that Gonc is NOT greatly liked in his home country; we know the PJ loathe him for bringing them into disrepute - remember, no-one went to his 'retiral' party, and then there are those PJ logs about the wife-beating which escaped...

Why Morais and co have spun this web of lies and deceit I do not know; they have, though, and as soon as ANYONE sees what they have done, the whole house of cards comes crashing down.

I think things have moved on, Bonny. Marais and co are rather marginalised now.

Maybe. But am I supposed to believe that none of the rest of The PJ Officers at Portimao Police Station knew what was going on? Am I supposed to believe that the bad eggs brought down from Lisbon to beat up Leonor Cipriano were just incidental? Am I supposed to believe that her crying and screaming from pain went entirely unnoticed? No one heard or saw a thing about it? Oh, really.

Why would MG think the Express would be interested in such a story anyway given Desmond had to fork out around a million quid to the McCanns and friends and by all accounts have been trying to recoup the money

We will find out the veracity or not of it hopefully when he is on the witness stand.
He will have to name names at Express for verification purpose to substantiate his claim one would imagine.

It wasn't the McCanns who cost the Express money - it was the Sources in the PJ who fed them a load of lies. What was it the former editor said when he retired?
