Guardian - Two ex-pats declared arguidos

Post  bb1 on Tue Nov 11, 2014 8:20 pm

Madeleine McCann investigation: British expats among new suspects
Men believed to have lived on Algarve before three-year-old disappeared in 2007 face questioning by Portuguese police

Two British expats are among seven new suspects identified by detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The men, who have been declared arguidos – or formal suspects – by the Portuguese police, will be questioned later this month and ordered to provide DNA samples. The Britons, who are not known to each other, are believed to have lived on the Algarve in Portugal before Madeleine’s disappearance on 3 May 2007. A further four individuals are being treated as witnesses.

Two other Britons – a man and a woman who also live in Portugal – will assist the investigation as witnesses, the Guardian has learned.

Detectives will question the suspects between 24 and 28 November in a process expected to include ordering them to provide DNA samples that may be matched against evidence recovered during the original investigation seven years ago.

None of the seven new suspects was questioned by Portuguese police in the summer, when detectives interviewed four Portuguese nationals about the three-year-old’s disappearance from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.

Detectives from Scotland Yard’s Operation Grange investigation are pursuing a number of lines of inquiry, but Portuguese police chiefs are understood to consider the theory Madeleine was abducted by a foreign national – rather than a local – as among the most probable.

The imminent questioning of new suspects comes after British forensic analysts visited Portugal last month to revisit some of the evidence retrieved from the Ocean Beach Club holiday apartment where Madeleine was last seen.

In July officers questioned four Portuguese nationals over the disappearance. Those interviews followed a ground-level search in Praia da Luz in June in an operation that failed to recover any new evidence.

So, when are the pitchforkers going to set up sites called THE TWO ARGUIDOS so they invent sh*t about these two? Or is this different?

BTW, any of the ex-pat forkers missing from the hate sites? You know, maybe a couple of those ex-pats that are never done saying what a wonderful police officer and all-round prince among men Amoral is?

Portugal is soooo safe for tourists....

During July and August of last year, Hugo Gonçalves, 31, devoted himself to rob tourists, especially women, who attacked overnight in Albufeira. Charged with 27 counts of aggravated robbery, the 'Solitaire' and came to be called, began yesterday to be tried in the Court of Portimão.

Perfectly understandable, Sabot. To be honest, I am wondering if they are known to Morais, she is having such a spectacular meltdown. And let's face it, if any ex-pats were involved - well, they'd be only too happy to post on hate sites to draw attention away from themselves, make up sh*te about the McCanns, etc.

Maddie McCann cops quiz British gardener who worked near holiday flats in the resort of Praia da Luz
Nov 16, 2014 00:11 By Matthew Drake
The ex-pat, who still still lives in Portugals' Algarve, is being questioned about his whereabouts between the "critical hours" when little Maddie went missing

A British gardener is being questioned about his movements over a critical two-and-a-half-hour period on the night Madeleine McCann disappeared.

The ex-pat, who still lives in Portugal’s Algarve, was working near the apartment where she vanished on May 3, 2007.

This week he has been quizzed by police over his whereabouts between the critical hours of 7pm to 9.30pm, the Sunday People can reveal.

That evening Madeleine’s parents Gerry, 45, and Kate, 46, went for a meal with friends at the Ocean Club resort, Praia da Luz, where they were staying.

They left Madeleine, then three, and their two-year-old twins in their holiday flat about 80 yards away.

The self-employed gardener and handyman was seen by British and Portuguese officers at a police station in Faro on Wednesday.

The gardener, who has lived in Portugal for more than a decade, has strongly denied any involvement in Madeleine’s disappearance.

According to the official timeline of that night, dad Gerry left the meal to check on the children at apartment 5A at 9.15pm.

Kate raised the alarm at 10pm when she realised Madeleine had gone.

During the original Portuguese police probe, the gardener said he left a bar at the same resort at around 7pm that night.

The gardener, who lived with a companion in Praia da Luz until 2006, gave a mouth swab to Portuguese police when he gave his statement in 2007.

In his original interview he denied seeing anything strange at the time of Madeleine’s abduction or having ever seen the family before the abduction.

He has now been identified as one of seven new possible suspects – five men and two women – who detectives believe could hold vital information.

A British woman is also believed to have been questioned this week by officers from Operation Grange, the fresh Madeleine inquiry ordered by David Cameron three years ago.

our others are men from Portugal and the seventh is understood to be a woman of Central or Eastern European origin.

All of them were ordered to provide fresh DNA samples which will be matched against samples of evidence taken from the resort in Praia da Luz.

Insiders said they will be classed as persons of interest – known as “arguidos” in Portuguese law.

It is understood some of the possible suspects know each other or worked together at the Ocean Club resort.

At least two are believed to have criminal records and some exchanged phone calls on the night Madeleine vanished.

A source said: “Officers from Operation Grange have reviewed several statements given at the time Madeleine went missing and have identified several points they believe still need answering.

"They will interview, re-interview and then review several people and their statements and then refocus again at the end of the month.”

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the force would not officially comment on the continuing investigation.

The developments come two weeks after it emerged that forensic experts were unable to find a DNA match for 98 hair strands found during the original police probe.

Scotland Yard experts believes these hairs could hold the key to solving the case.

======

One gets the distinct impression that the Yard have a pretty good idea what happened that night, and just who the scumbag/s that abducted Madeleine were....

The gardener appears to be this person:

http://www.mccannpjfiles.co.uk/PJ/GEORGE-JONES.htm

Of whom some dumbo haters says:

McPawn ‏@Coldwater3As
@mariaccnr Basically Jones is saying"I was there 2pm to 4pm Wed 2/5/07 but nowhere near on 3/5/2007" so which day are SY looking at? #mccann

May 3rd, of course, if the phone records show he WAS near 5a at the time of Madeleine's abduction. They really should drop their idiotic nonsense about the McCanns, they've been consistently wrong for SEVEN YEARS now.

They need to try thinking outside their boxes, and grasping that Madeleine McCann was abducted. And that the first investigation was so poor, Amoral so incompetent and blind, it was a complete f*ck up.

They will find it all then makes perfect sense....though that would mean facing the truth about themselves.

Madeleine McCann detectives forced to delay interviews of new suspects
Nov 18, 2014 18:08 By Gerard Couzens
Scotland Yard cops have out their trip on hold after failing to reach an agreement on the interview status of 11 people they were due to quiz

Cops hoping for a breakthrough in the case of missing Madeleine McCann were dealt a blow after they were forced to postpone plans to quiz new suspects.

Detectives put their trip to Portugal on hold after they failed to reached an agreement over the interview status of 11 people they were due to question.

They had been given the go-ahead for the new round of interviews next week after a new criminal prosecutor in the case approved a fifth international letter of request.

A British man and a woman were understood to be among those facing a list of questions over the night Madeleine McCann disappeared from her Algarve holiday resort.

It is believed Operation Grange detectives cancelled their five-day trip to Faro over confusion about whether some of the people set to be interviewed would be questioned as arguidos - formal suspects in Portugal - or witnesses.

Prosecutor Ines Sequeira is off sick and was unable to clarify the situation, sparking the suspension of the trip by DCI Andy Redwood and his colleagues.

A new date for the interviews has not been set - and they are now unlikely to happen this year.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We have never officially confirmed when we are going out and we're not going to give a running commentary on this case."

More delays = good news for Gonzo.

Madeleine McCann investigators quiz British gardener for second time but he vows: 'I didn't see her'
Nov 23, 2014 00:01 By David Collins, Matthew Drake
Gardener who worked in Praia da Luz, Portugal, when the youngster went missing denies ever seeing her

An expat British gardener quizzed over the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has vowed to the Sunday People: “I never saw her.”

The man was working near a Portuguese holiday apartment where the little girl vanished on May 3, 2007, and attracted the attention of police at the time.

Detectives re-examining the case grilled him this month on his whereabouts on the night Madeleine went missing.

Lurking
The three-year-old was at the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz with her parents Kate and Gerry.

But the gardener insisted to us: “I never saw the girl, or the McCanns. I did do work for the Ocean Club. Someone apparently told the police they saw someone matching my description lurking around on the night she went missing.

“But I wasn’t there – I was in a bar somewhere else.”

“They’ve checked this out before. They sent detectives to the bar to speak to the owner. I have witnesses that I was there.”

The Brit also revealed he did not give a mouth swab for DNA tests during the original Portuguese investigation, as case files claim.
He told us: “All I had to do was answer questions and have a photo taken. I’ve never given a mouth swab or been tested for DNA.”

Speaking at his apartment on Portugal’s Algarve coast, the gardener, who we are not naming, said he was questioned about Madeleine for “around 11 hours” in 2007.

He said of the new inquiry by a team including UK officers: “Why are they spending all this money? People go missing all the time.

“It’s a long time ago. They’ll never find her. I’ve racked my brains. They need to leave it now.”

Kate, 46, and Gerry, 45, of Rothley, Leics, were at a tapas bar about 80 yards from their apartment when Madeleine vanished.

Gerry checked on her and her brother and sister at 9.15pm. At 10pm Kate found she had gone.

The gardener says he was at a bar until 7pm, then went home. He returned to the bar at 9.30, staying until 11.30. At least one of his witnesses is now dead, he admits.

Police believe seven new possible suspects, five men and two women, may have information. It is reported they also plan to re-interview another expat, Robert Murat, 41, cleared by the 2007 inquiry.

=======

“It’s a long time ago. They’ll never find her. I’ve racked my brains. They need to leave it now.”

And how, pray tell, does he know 'they' will never find her, and why do 'they' need to leave it now? That's enough to make anyone suspicious.

As for the DNA stuff - either he's lying, or there are massive errors in the police files. Personally, I suspect the former.
