This isn't going to end well.

Israel is getting a pretty bad press just now, and this comes right on the heels of Israel bombing Syria.

I reckon the immediate removal of the terrorist who is as good as dictator there would be a very good move. He uses the umbrella of the USA to cover his war crimes. LL

Seen this, LL?

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/09/world/middleeast/israels-nationality-bill-stirs-debate-over-religious-and-democratic-identity.html?_r=1

I seem to recall someone else had a 'thing' about certain citizens being more equal than others due to their bloodline, and that didn't end well.

Israel wants to be careful - it may find the American umbrella has sprung a few leaks due to recent events and revelations.

I wonder if it ever occurs to Israel to stop stealing other people's land? They might find the real locals are less angry if they stop seizing farms and olive groves that have been in the same family for generations, and building their horrible, ticky-tacky housing schemes on land that isn't theirs.

A Palestinian minister has died after a confrontation with Israeli troops in the West Bank.

Ziad Abu Ein was taking part in a tree-planting demonstration in Turmus Aya when he was hit in the chest by an Israeli soldier's helmet and teargas was fired.

He then began to experience breathing problems, and died while he was being taken to hospital by ambulance.

Announcing three days of national mourning, Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas called Mr Abu Ein's death "a barbaric act which we cannot be silent about or accept."

About 100 foreign and Palestinian activists were on their way to plant trees near an Israeli settlement when they were stopped at an improvised checkpoint.

A group of around 15 Israeli soldiers fired tear gas at the protesters and began scuffling with them, witnesses said.

One marcher said Mr Abu Ain marched toward the soldiers ahead of everyone else, until he was stopped by a soldier.

He said the soldier headbutted the politician then hit him in the chest with his rifle butt.

An Israeli Defence Force spokesman said it was "reviewing occurrences" at the demonstration and updates would follow.

Now the EU has annoyed Israel:

http://rt.com/news/215143-hamas-off-terror-list/

EU court removes Hamas from terror blacklist
Published time: December 17, 2014 09:02
Edited time: December 17, 2014 10:55 Get short URL

The EU General Court has ordered that the Palestinian militant group Hamas be removed from the bloc’s terror blacklist. The move comes over four years after Hamas appealed its terror designation before the EU.

The European Union first banned Hamas’ military wing, the Izz a-Din al-Qassam Brigades, in 2002, though the organization’s social and political divisions were not put on the terror list. Following a series of Hamas suicide bombings during the second intifada or uprising in September 2003, the EU extended the ban to include the organization as a whole.

On September 12, 2010, Hamas appealed the ban, largely on procedural grounds. In its complaint, the group cited a lack of due process, specifically, that it had not been properly informed the act was being implemented. It further asserted that as a “legitimately-elected government,” it cannot be labeled as a terrorist organization, saying such a designation flies in the face of “the principle of non-interference in the internal matters of a State.”

READ MORE: ‘Amnesty are victims of Hamas propaganda’ – Israeli FM spokesman

The court accepted the organization’s argument, saying that the decision to remove Hamas from the list was not based on an examination of Hamas’ activities, but rather on an examination of the procedures used to institute the 2003 ban in the first place. Unless an appeal brings closure, however, a funding freeze against the group and sanctions against its members will remain in place for three more months.

The lawyer for Hamas, Liliane Glock, told AFP she was “satisfied with the decision.”

Hamas official Izzat al-Rishq lauded the decision, saying the court had righted an injustice done to the organization, which he said is a “national freedom movement,” and not a terrorist organization, the Jerusalem Post reports.

But a deputy from Israel’s major right-wing Likud party, Danny Danon, said, "The Europeans must believe that there blood is more sacred than the blood of the Jews which they see as unimportant. That is the only way to explain the EU court's decision to remove Hamas from the terror blacklist."

"In Europe they must have forgotten that Hamas kidnapped three boys and fired thousands of rockets last summer at Israeli citizens," he added.

Shortly after the ruling, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the EU to keep Hamas on its list of terrorist organizations.

"We expect them to immediately put Hamas back on the list," Reuters cites Netanyahu as saying in a statement. "Hamas is a murderous terrorist organization which in its charter states its goal is to destroy Israel."

The EU and Israel have attempted to downplay the ruling, saying that groups standing within Europe as terror organizations will not change. Israeli and European officials say the court will be given a few months to rebuild its file against Hamas with evidence of the group’s activities, which will enable it to be placed back on the list of terror organizations, the Israeli news portal Ynet reports.

According to RT's Paula Slier, Israeli politicians "across the political spectrum" have unanimously condemned what they call a "temporary" removal.

According to Slier, EU officials have given Israel assurances that Brussels’ position has not changed, saying Wednesday’s ruling was a “technical” mistake. Officials from the 28-member bloc further said the court did not have sufficient authority to affect the entire EU’s position.

In the interim, however, EU member states will be empowered to establish diplomatic ties with Hamas.

The EU ambassador to Israel, Lars Faaborg-Andersen, will meet with Israel’s Foreign Minister, Nissim Ben-Sheetrit, on Wednesday to discuss the matter, Israeli daily Haaretz reports. Faaborg-Andersen is expected to reiterate that the EU’s position on Hamas remains unchanged, and that a future decision to reclassify Hamas as a terror organization is forthcoming.

During the January 2006 Palestinian parliamentary elections, Hamas defeated the PLO-affiliated Fatah party and has governed the Gaza Strip for the past seven years. Some countries have treated Hamas as a terrorist organization, while others have not. While Australia, Canada, Egypt, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Qatar, the US and the UK all treat Hamas or its military wing as a terrorist organization, other states, including China, Iran, Russia and Turkey, do not.

Hamas leaders have made several diplomatic trips to Russia to discuss a range of issues, from Palestinian reconciliation to economic relations.

What unbelievable arrogance, and Zionist racism! I would suggest that it's Israel that doesn't care about Arab/Palestinian blood being shed, as they don't seem to regard them as human beings. Especially not human beings entitled to stay on the farmland their families have worked for generations.

Interesting that the EU is prepared to break ranks with the US over this, though.

The Europeans must believe that there blood is more sacred than the blood of the Jews which they see as unimportant.
How short memories are, especially in Israel.  While the US was refusing asylum to MS St. Louis ocean liner carrying Jewish refugees from Germany to Cuba in 1939, the British were welcoming the Kindertransport with open arms.    Many of the St Louis passengers died in the concentration camps (see below), the Kindertransport children spent the war safely in the UK. LL
Following the US government's refusal to permit the passengers to disembark, the St. Louis sailed back to Europe on June 6, 1939. The passengers did not return to Germany, however. Jewish organizations (particularly the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee) negotiated with four European governments to secure entry visas for the passengers: Great Britain took 288 passengers; the Netherlands admitted 181 passengers, Belgium took in 214 passengers; and 224 passengers found at least temporary refuge in France. Of the 288 passengers admitted by Great Britain, all survived World War II save one, who was killed during an air raid in 1940. Of the 620 passengers who returned to continent, 87 (14%) managed to emigrate before the German invasion of Western Europe in May 1940. 532 St. Louis passengers were trapped when Germany conquered Western Europe. Just over half, 278 survived the Holocaust. 254 died: 84 who had been in Belgium; 84 who had found refuge in Holland, and 86 who had been admitted to France.

I find myself increasingly annoyed when some Israelis play the Holocaust card, LL, just as I am when some African-Americans play the Slavery card - and I don't greatly care if it isn't PC to say so. Note I say 'some' not all.

Yes, Israel has the right to exist - but it doesn't have the right to steal everyone else's land by the use of military might, nor to consider Palestinian lives less valuable than Israeli lives. I used to admire Israel, but not these days; it seems to be at the root of a great deal of trouble in the Middle East.

If Israel wanted to carry on playing the victim card, they shouldn't have let beer-drinking Israelis whoop, holler and cheer from their safe stolen land while Gaza was being blitzed, IMO. That's an image the world isn't going to forget in a hurry.

http://rt.com/news/217975-unsc-palestine-statehood-vote/

he UN Security Council has failed to adopt the Arab coalition’s bid calling for the creation of a Palestinian state and an end to Israeli “occupation”. The veto power US and Australia voted against the move with 5 abstentions.

The draft resolution gathered only 8 votes in favour, so it was automatically defeated. The US however still used its veto power and voted against the resolution. Another veto power state, the UK, along with Lithuania, Nigeria, Korea and Rwanda have abstained from the vote.
...cont. at link.

Interesting that the UK only abstained. And what on earth is wrong with Australia these days? Abbott seems to want to turn it into Airstrip 2. Or is he just concerned in case Aborigines start getting ideas about nationhood?

Israelis biting the hand that feeds them:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/01/02/israel-police-say-jewish-settlers-stone-us-consular-officials-during-west-bank/?intcmp=latestnews

JERUSALEM – Jewish settlers attacked American consular officials Friday during a visit the officials made to the West Bank as part of an investigation into claims of damage to Palestinian agricultural property, Israeli police and Palestinian witnesses say.

The incident is likely to further chill relations between Israel and the United States, already tense over American criticisms of Israeli settlement construction in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, and Israeli perceptions that President Barack Obama is only lukewarm in his support of Israeli diplomatic and security policies.

Settlers have often spoken against what they call foreign interference in their affairs, but this is the first known physical attack against diplomatic personnel

More at link, including:

Abu Samra said that last spring he and his family planted some 10,000 olive tree saplings on land the family owns in the village, but that since then, settlers have uprooted most of them.

It still baffles me that Israel is being allowed to steal other people's land like this.

Good God, LL!

This came after sources close to an Israeli government official told AFP earlier that Israel is considering filing war crimes suits overseas against Palestinian leaders in response to their ICC application.

What can you say to that? Do they think the world has forgotten about things like this:

and this:

Quite seriously, people are being pushed too far now, and the world seems to be full of angry people spoiling for a fight. I don't get good vibes about 2015 at all.

As I said, I would back the Jewish people to the hilt, but not Israel.    That link was sent to me by a Jewish friend who lives in Berlin; he would rather live in Germany than Israel, he lived there for 4 years then left, never to return.   He said that many of the Jews who went there believing they would be at peace have now left and only the hardline zealots have remained.    LL

An interesting read:

http://rt.com/news/219675-suicide-soldiers-double-gaza/

Suicides among soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces have doubled in 2014, according to an official report. The Israeli military has denied any connection between the upsurge and the escalating Gaza conflict.

Accoding to the report released by the IDF Manpower Division, 15 soldiers took their own lives last year, more than twice the seven suicides in 2013.

If that is what they are admitting to, the real total is probably a good bit higher.

The same thing has been reported in the US. Decent young men and women join up genuinely believing they are helping defend their nation, helping Iraqis, Afghans, etc., then come face to face with reality on deployment.

They are coming home maimed in mind, if not in body.

I was very lucky, I was one year outside the conscription in the UK. If I had been eligible I could have pleaded that killing was against my ethics or religion, but in Israel the only youngsters who can ask for exemption are the ultra-orthodox. While they moan and rock over their religious books, secular or normal Jews have no such get out clause. LL
