I wonder if it occurs to any of the PDL locals that, if business is bad, their own behaviour is causing people to stay away?

Things like:

Covering up holidaying children being attacked in their beds.

Having a remarkable number of convicted sex offenders in the area.

Botched investigations into missing children.

Dirty cops.

Deranged locals spitting hate on UK TV screens.

Deranged locals graffiti-ing the town with horrible remarks

and generally acting like Village of the Damned-

Don't exactly make people want to go there - it's not even a particularly pretty resort for the money.

Bystanders following the seven-year mystery have commented: “It would be good to hear whether these people have been sworn to silence - and if so under what compulsion and by whom”.

As that ^^^^ is doubtless written by one of the Hounders that hang around the ex-pat blogs, the 'bystanders' are likely about as genuine as the farcical attempt to pass pamalan off as a 'member of the public'.

The haters and hounders will lap the self-pitying nonsense up, though - any excuse to have a go at Madeleine's family.

The resort is being taken over by Thomas Cook so it is at the very least a business move.

The hounders and haters appear to imagine that this change of management will 'free OC employees to speak out and Truthseek.'

I doubt it very much, somehow. That would mean admitting their own culpability in NOT warning holidaymakers about assaulted children, etc.

The resort is actually not all that good at all. Very commercial looking, as though it never quite settled, or shouldn't have been there in the first place. And parts of it still look like building sites.
Some parts of The Algarve are really pretty, even some of the more modern parts. So it would never have done for me. But then it was built just to make money, with no real class.

That's what chains do unfortunately, Sabot, which is why they don't appeal to everyone.

The Holiday House that I look after here is so nice, and really looks homely, Lily. The owners also own a Villa in Praia da Luz, which I know will be just as good as this one is.

Very odd, really. They bought it just before Madeleine disappeared, at a time when I had never heard of the place.

I get the impression there aren't many genuine Portuguese folk in PDL, that it's more of an ex-pat colony, where the real locals do the boring, dirty work in hotels, etc.

I haven't seen anything about PDL that would greatly make me want to go there. There are much prettier places in Portugal, places with history, attractive architecture, etc., that aren't overflowing with ex-pat Brits.
