Claudia Lawrence arrest proves that the hunt for missing Madeleine McCann should continue

AS A police boss says it’s time to shelve the inquiry, surely this week’s arrest over missing chef Claudia Lawrence proves there’s still hope of a breakthrough.

The numbers are undeniably compelling.

Four years; 31 officers of the Metropolitan Police; 33 trips to Portugal; £10million.

There, in cold, unemotional figures, is the cost of the British inquiry in terms of the time, manpower, travel and money which has been spent on investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Expressed in this manner, it is not difficult to understand why some are saying that it is time to scale back the search for the little girl.

After all, it has produced no fruitful new leads or lines of inquiry.

At the same time, the Met is stretched as never before with quashing terrorist plots while also having to cope with ever diminishing finances.

A hard-nosed accountant or a time-and-motion inspector would no doubt use those numbers to swing the argument for calling a halt to Operation Grange, the name given by the Met to the inquiry into Maddie.

The trouble is that the unexplained disappearance of a child is never a cold, unemotional event.

The thought of a child in danger touches us in the most visceral way.

That is why many tens of thousands of people who have no connection to the McCanns became gripped by the tragedy of their predicament.

These people were not just from the McCanns’ home community in Leicestershire or even from this, their home country but people from all over the world.

Nearly eight years on, they remain engaged with the case.

That is why all parents – and even many who are not – will feel only dismay at the idea that it is time for the police to throw in the towel now.

What is even more distressing is the implied suggestion that a price can be put on a child’s life.

Some ask why it is the already over-burdened London force which is looking for Maddie when the McCanns are not residents of the capital.

But it is an irrelevant question.

As British citizens, Kate and Gerry McCann are entitled to all the help the British Government can provide.

In this instance, the Government, via the Home Office, simply decided to give them some of the best crime investigators that this country (some might say the world) can offer: a team from Scotland Yard.

Others take issue with the £10million cost so far of searching for Madeleine when the average police “spend” per missing child is between £1,300 and £2,400.

But that is because nine out of 10 cases are solved within 48 hours.

To continue looking for Maddie is to acknowledge that hope doesn’t die – and with good reason.

In this very week, police arrested a man in connection with the disappearance of chef Claudia Lawrence, who went missing from York six years ago.

As with the Maddie case, the place where Claudia was last seen has been searched time and again and still, it seems that it had not yet yielded up all its secrets.

Before Maddie, Britain’s best-known missing child was Ben Needham, who was a little blonde toddler when he vanished in 1991 while on holiday with his mother and grandparents on the Greek island of Kos.

While the search led by South Yorkshire Police (the Needhams are from Sheffield) has inevitably ebbed and flowed, it has never ground to a halt.

Further excavations on Kos were carried out as recently as 2012 and in January, Ben’s mother Kerry handed police a file listing eight separate sightings of Ben throughout the Nineties.

The Home Office has set aside a £700,000 fund to keep the search going.

Maddie is out there somewhere.

The only reason to cease looking for her is because her parents wish it and not because her fate has gone over budget.

Thank you Max, that's a good piece - and timely, too.

I don't know what the haters are all carping about - well, I do, they're spiteful, resentful, and can't bear the thought of a missing child being found.

They need to read something beyond stupid gossip about reality TV stars and grasp just how much money the Home Office burns through. Like, £10 million a WEEK on the woes of asylum seekers and illegal immigrants.

Why aren't they being self-righteous about that, instead of pretending that £10 million over several years is an unthinkably large sum of money?

The truth is, they all hate Madeleine McCann just as much as they do the rest of her family, under all the faux concern. They can't bear the thought of a missing child being found, because that would mean their beloved Gonzo really is just a waste of oxygen.

Claudia Lawrence Murder Probe: Three Arrested
Searches are being carried out after three men were detained in connection with the case of the chef who vanished six years ago.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Claudia Lawrence have arrested three men on suspicion of murder.

North Yorkshire Police said the three men were all in the 50s and from the York area.

Officers are conducting searches which are expected to continue for several days.

The 35-year-old chef went missing from her home in Heworth, York, on 18 March, 2009. She was last seen nearing her home as she returned from work and sent a text message later that evening.

She has not been heard from since.

Police stressed that despite the fresh arrests, Ms Lawrence has not been found.

A man who was arrested on 23 March, who is also in his 50s and from the York area, remains on police bail while the investigation continues.

A 60-year-old man was arrested last year in connection with her disappearance and suspected murder but was later released without charge.

And a 47-year-old man arrested last July on suspicion of perverting the course of justice has also been released from his bail.

North Yorkshire Police have carried out a series of searches since launching a review of the case in 2013.

The review has also involved a detailed re-examination of Miss Lawrence's home, in the Heworth area of York, and a fingertip search of an alleyway that leads to the rear of the house.

Anyone with information about Ms Lawrence's disappearance can contact North Yorkshire Police's force control room by dialling 101, selecting option 1 and quoting "Claudia Lawrence".

Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org .

Good one from Myths. LL
Postby scoobydoo » Sun Apr 26, 2015 10:35 pm
Why is it we keep seeing articles like this about Madeleine McCann, but not about other missing people. There was an article saying the Claudia Lawrence case shows why the search for Madeleine should go on, but that's it. Why no articles going on about the cost of looking for Claudia Lawrence, or demanding to know what the police are doing, or saying that its six years now time to shut up shop? Is just because madeleine got so much media coverage people think she has had a similar level of police investigation even though she has had fewer police resources used on her than comparable cases?

Do all police investigations attract the same level of conspiracy theories? Here we have a little girl who by all independent accounts was happy and healthy showing no signs of abuse or neglect who was staying in a busy resort in an area where there had been numerous break ins and sadly in some break ins children had been attacked. What is more in the same block of flats a break in had occurred very recently with entry gained by the window with no visable signs of force, and men had been seen watching the McCann's flat and going door to door cponning money from people with one man showing an unhealthy ointerest in a three year old girl and later breaking into her home the same e day three year old Madeleine disappeared. There had been no publicity or warnings about these incidents so madeleine's parents thought it was fine leaving the children tucked up in bed whilst they ate dinner fifty metres away and checked up on them every twenty minutes or so. When Madeleine was found missing with the window and shutters open they would quite naturally reach the conclusion someone had jemmied (meaning forced) the window to gain entry and steal their child. If one comes home to find a window open and your home ransacked one does not automatically presme the intrtuder opened the window from the inside even if that may turn out to be the case. Most normal people would think the simplest explanation was the men responsible for the previous break ins broke in to the McCann's flat in the same manner they broke into the upstairs flat and something happened that resulted in them taking Madeleine.
But nooooooo the antis have decided that the simplest explanations are that either Madeleine died before the third and her parents decided to cover it up and enlisted friends, acquaintances, mi5 etc to help them do this through the use of doubles, fake photos, nannies forgetting what their charges looked like etc whilst they carried on their holiday exactly as before or she died on the third and the parents acted exactly as before except the grand plot was arranged in the space of a few hours and in both case Madeleine was hidden so well by these people who didn't know the area that she remains hidden. There is also a theory that she was stored in a fridge that never existed ( hard core mutters claim Gerry McCann wrote that he took one to the tip, but this is another fib from antis) then after several weeks moved in front of the watching world and their dog possibly using a blue bag which no one has confirmed even belonged to the McCann's yet which antius claimed went missing (again a lie as nothing to support this claim has ever surfaced). Then they get annoyed at being labeled weirdos, conspiracy theorists, wannabe experts, nutters, fantasists etc.

That is indeed an excellent post from Scoobydoo, LL, and summarises it perfectly. No, I have NO idea why so many nutters, egotists, armchair defectives and bottomfeeders like Butler have latched onto the McCann case.

It certainly isn't because they care about a missing child. Their sickening obsessions, their obscene, grotesque photoshopping, endless, egotistical videos and repulsive speculation demonstrate that every day.

Most normal people would think the simplest explanation was the men responsible for the previous break ins broke in to the McCann's flat in the same manner they broke into the upstairs flat and something happened that resulted in them taking Madeleine.

Precisely.
