What is Helium? And how does it kill you?

It's best known as 'laughing gas' - or the stuff you fill balloons with, Sabot. It's achieved notoriety more recently because it is often used as a party drug, but it's dangerous:

Why are they assuming she intended to kill herself? Given her general appearance and lifestyle, Leyland did NOT regard herself as this helpless, little old lady with a zimmer they keep trying to paint her as.

For all they know, she checked into the hotel to get away from the press for a couple of days and get high along the way - this time, with disastrous results.

It's certainly demonstrating the complete ignorance of haters, that they don't know about its use as a party drug - they even think it has to be lugged around in huge cylinders, and is hard to get hold of.

That's how easy it is to get helium - just trot along to Argos. Those wishing to leave this earth happy, can also find instructions online for using 'helium hoods' to help them on their way.

The Bottled Gas I use for cooking is supposed to be Laughing Gas. These bottles weigh a ton. Perhaps this is what they think was used. Instead of the very small canisters that can be bought.

Couldn't be more banal, more like. Middle class woman with money uses middle-class 'crack' easily obtainable from chain stores to either get high with disastrous results, or departs this earth in non-painful manner as recommended on internet.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if it was an accident - Leyland seems to have had a lot of secrets.

at the risk of being a bit pedantic, Helium is not laughing gas.

Helium is a light, stable gas. HE - 2 on the periodic table. A non explosive gas, it is safer than using hydrogen. It is also used by divers. Its main "fun" use is that breathing it in and then taking makes you sound like donald duck.

Nitous oxide is laughing gas - a molecule of nitrogen and oxygen. It is the stuff dentists used to give you to knock you out for dental work. Now its a bit of the gas and air used in A&E. Interestingly, there are suggestions that in addiotion to its medical uses, and recreational uses, it may have the effect of lifting depression.

'A tank'? Thought they were all fantastic Researchers and Armchair Defectives. They need to do a bit of Truthseeking and grasp it can be bought all over the High Street, and the cans are so small, they're easy to carry in handbags and pockets.

Thanks, Jean-Pierre, it's a subject I know nothing about, beyond the many, many reports on idiots getting high on inhaling it. It's always been a mystery to me why people would pay to make themselves sick and dizzy, but hey ho!

Goodness, is that what they look like? It doesn't take much to get high then. if one of those can do it.

That's it, Sabot. You can buy bigger ones from Argos if you're going to be doing a lot of balloon-blowing, but that's what the small ones look like.

The McCann-haters are trying to concoct a huge conspiracy involving lugging enormous hospital-size cylinders around, but personally, I doubt if there is very much to this at all.

I suspect her gear would have been easily found by the police, but the cause of death couldn't be confirmed until after an autopsy/toxicology report had been done.

Given her high-maintenance appearance, and known lifestyle, it's entirely possible that Leyland was a recreational user - Hutton and a few others that are old enough to know better boast about using cannabis, FFS.

Or if she took her own life, the instructions are a mere mouseclick away.

As I have been saying from the start, the REAL police have her computer/s; what she was googling will be very telling indeed. And I do wish the haters would drop this 'frail pensioner' nonsense; they're creating someone that didn't exist. Leyland travelled all over the world, and had a pretty expensive lifestyle. She seems to have gone to great effort to hide her real age, so for all anyone knows, it was the truth about that coming out that upset her.

She may have taken some helium balloons into the hotel. That would not be regarded as unusual at all.

Good point, Lily, it wouldn't. Helium balloons are ubiquitous these days, and helium can be bought at supermarkets, etc.

Point is, we don't know what happened, and won't know the full story for a few weeks. It's all just guesswork. But that hasn't stopped the McCann-haters from inventing yet more convoluted, stupid conspiracy theories, in which everything is the McCanns' fault, and talking absolute rubbish without doing even the most basic fact-checking about helium. Or helium canisters.

That's because they only want for it to be the fault of the McCanns, even by the most indirect of ways.

I seem to recall something about Brunt talking to her privately? How do the haters know that he didn't set her straight about one or two things, undo her delusions, and she was overcome with shame when she realised she wasn't a Truthseeker after all?

Thing is, we just do not know at present; there are many possible explanations for her death. One of which is NOT some vast, stupid plot involving 'Team McCann' - whatever the crazies imagine that is.

He did talk to her, about what, we have no way of knowing. That never ever stops the crazies from making up shyte theorizing about everything.
