Re: US politics and election
http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14251236.Glasgow_Mosque_conservative___You_have_to_change_for_Islam__Islam_does_not_change_for_you_/
Dr Kausar said stressed Islam, in his view, could not bend to what he saw as Western democratic impositions on traditional practice.
He said: "Regarding our ladies, they are quite happy. The Mosque is a religious thing. Islam is not a small religion or a young one. It has been going for 1600 years and it has ruled over large areas of the world.
"All the rules for women and children are there in Islam.
"We have to follow Islam's rules, which are made by the prophet and the Koran. We don't bring it in to the western politics. There are women who say they want to be Imams. It is not allowed in Islam. It is not needed. You can't pass the rule in parliament for the Mosque. Islam is a faith. If you believe in a religion you have to believe in all that it dictates."
Dr Kausar also said he believed other ethnic groups were happy with the way the Mosque was run. "You can see the Somalians standing shoulder to shoulder, he said. Complaints about lack of non-Pakistani representation, he said, came from the reformers. He said: "The group you are mentioning they are complaining because they have the AGM in front of them and they might lose their support. It is just to build their support. It is politics."
At least he's being honest about islam and its bigotry.

Re: US politics and election
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/donald-trump/12139474/Donald-Trumps-plane-makes-emergency-landing.html
Donald Trump's plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday because of engine trouble.
The Boeing 757 was on its way from Mr Trump's home base of New York to Little Rock, Arkansas, where the property mogul and Republican presidential candidate was due to address a rally.
The private jet landed safely at 4:40 pm after reporting engine problems, according to the Federal Aviation Authority, which said it would investigate the incident.
Mr Trump travelled the rest of the way in a charter aircraft, a campaign spokeswoman said.
Probably a genuine technical problem, but the timing has to raise eyebrows. If Trump gets much closer to destroying the corrupt Washington establishment, he'd be well advised to stay clear of grassy knolls and book depositories.

Re: US politics and election
I haven't been paying much attention to the Dems, as I can't stand Hills, Sanders=Corbyn, and the pair of them have all the charisma of a soggy, mildewed flannel.
But in the interests of fairness, some debate or other:

It sounds absolutely dire.

I'm not convinced that was an accidental 'disaster'. I suspect Dr Carson may have, in fact, been trolling the rest of the candidates and making it clear he wished to be associated only with Trump.

Re: US politics and election
http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/02/rubio-implodes-in-new-hampshire-debate.html#
Senator Marco Rubio's attempt to claim the GOP establishment mantle and surge past Donald Trump and Ted Cruz to the Republican presidential nomination encountered a massive glitch in the early part of Saturday night’s debate. At first, Rubio’s strategy appeared to be to rehash his stump speech insinuating that President Obama is deliberately damaging America. Chris Christie, whose strategy for the debate was clearly to take out Rubio, repeatedly called attention to the senator’s canned speech and accused him of using memorized sound bits to cover up for his complete lack of executive experience. That strategy worked. The exchange became an instant classic in the history of political smackdowns, especially because, incredibly, a clearly rattled Rubio continued to use his canned speech, repeating his attack on Obama a total of four times over the first half of the debate:

Muppet. Fox News will be in mourning.

Re: US politics and election
Lily, I have seen politicians come unglued before, but Rubio was spectacular - he didn't seem to have control over his own vocal cords, repeatedly doing exactly what Christie was accusing him of....
I don't know what happened with Dr Carson not going on stage as scheduled, but the candidates that just barged past him pulling faces - OMG! Jeb! - OMG, OMG! His mummy won't be pleased with that show of bad manners. Trump handled it perfectly, in contrast.
PS - why does Christie always remind me of The Sopranos?

Re: US politics and election
That certainly brought Rubio's memorized words out to the front.
I don't know why Dr. Carson stopped short in his tracks but it did show some strange behavior.

Madeline Albright: ‘There’s A Special Place In Hell’ For Women Who Don’t Vote For Hillary; Hillary Laughs It Off
I think she means there is a special place in Hell waiting for Madeline Albright...
I think this is a very hard choice, but the price — we think the price is worth it.
Stated on CBS's 60 Minutes (May 12, 1996) in reply to Lesley Stahl's question "We have heard that half a million children have died. I mean, that's more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?" Albright was U.S. ambassador to the United Nations at the time.
Incidentally, why on earth would anyone vote for Monica's ex-boyfriends's wife just because she's more or less female?
