'Burglar' Dies After Break-In At Couple's Villa
11:36, UK, Monday 21 September 2015

A suspected burglar has died after an apparent break-in at a British couple's villa in Portugal, according to Sky sources.

Sky's Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said the couple and their son caught the burglar, restrained him and called the police.

The man died following a choke-hold, according to reports.

He was caught with some of their possessions in his hands at the villa in Vilamoura on the Algarve, Brunt said.

He added: "I think at the moment police are investigating to establish for certain how exactly the burglar died."

There is no indication at this stage whether the couple, who are believed to be in their 50s, have been arrested.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place to determine the cause of death.

More follows...

But how can this be, you may well ask. Haven't we been told, repeatedly, by the McCann-haters that Portuguese burglars never, ever break into occupied properties? Are indeed the most thoughtful and  timid of burglars?

All this despite the fact that Gonzo's old chum Cristovao has been charged with organising home invasions - amongst other things.

A suspected burglar has died after he was restrained by a British father and son who allegedly caught him breaking into their £1.5m villa on the Algarve in Portugal.

It is thought the suspect, who was discovered at the house on the outskirts of Vilamoura, was still alive when police first arrived after being called by the British man's wife.

Officers found the father and son - named locally as Trevor and Scott Taylor - grappling with the suspect while Jill Taylor was in the garden, according to sources.

The father, 60, was on top of the suspect while the son had his arm around his neck, it is believed.

The father, 60, was on top of the suspect while the son had his arm around his neck, it is believed.

The suspected intruder is understood to have suffered heart failure as officers went to handcuff him and they were unable to revive him.

One criminal less.

Sister Of Villa 'Burglar' Questions Why He Died
Ana Brito tells Sky News of her anger and grief over the death of her brother at a British family-owned home in Portugal.

The sister of a suspected burglar who allegedly broke in to a villa belonging to a British family in Portugal has questioned why her brother had to die.

Ana Brito told Sky News of her anger and grief over the death of Paulo Brito, who was allegedly restrained by Trevor Taylor and his son Scott at their home early on Sunday morning.

Ms Brito said: "My mum is dying because she lost her first kid and all we hear is that he is a burglar. He didn’t try to kill anyone. He didn't have a weapon.

"Why was it needed for three people to be on top of a man when you can feel someone is in pain and is losing his life, is short of breath.

"I understand that if you find someone inside your home you have to defend yourself, but not by killing anyone."

Ms Brito said although her brother had a troubled past and mental health problems, he was regarded a "sweet guy" to those that knew him.
....etc.

Yeah, of course he was, they always are. Rolling Eyes

No great mystery about why he's dead - he picked the wrong people to rob.

Absolutely NO concept of the fact that he is a criminal, who doubtless terrified his intended victims before his demise. Or that he wouldn't be dead if he hadn't broken into their home to rob them.

As far as I am concerned, Lily, if homeowners catch someone in the act of stealing from them, then they are entitled to use any force they feel is neccessary.

It's no-one's fault but his own that he's dead.

My friends, this was taken from Correio da Manhã newspaper:

http://www.cmjornal.xl.pt/nacional/portugal/detalhe/cumpriu_oito_anos_de_prisao.html

Dead thief assault served eight years of jail

Paulo Brito had left two months ago from prison.

Paulo Brito, the thief who was killed in an assault on the house of an English family in Vilamoura, had been out for about two months in prison, where he served eight years of a sentence for theft and other theft crimes. Already known to the authorities, 'Bombinho' as he was known, 35, had also been accused of coercion on employee for threats to a GNR post of Albufeira.

The CM, Victor's brother Paul, said yesterday that "he was arrested and made many mistakes but was trying to turn his life around." The truth is that 'Bombinha' was, 04h00 on Sunday morning, inside the Jill and Trevor Taylor's house, 61 and 60 years.

The couple faced the intruder and with the help of his son, Scott, 31, managed to master it. Then Scott kept Paul bound by the neck with his arm 'tourniquet', until the arrival of GNR. When dropped, the thief dropped dead on the floor. The first results indicate asphyxiation but the autopsy findings will still take up to be known as the doctor at the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Faro requested further tests, including toxicology analysis to the body.

For Victor, the brother of Paul, "the investigation has to be made, the authorities have to discover the causes of death, because he did not have any health problems."

The English were heard by the PJ, who took over the investigation, and made them defendants or "arguidos". The information was then sent to the prosecutor, who will decide whether to charge them or not. They were subject to term of identity and residence but Scott, who lives in England, can leave Portugal.

The CM, Victor's brother Paul, said yesterday that "he was arrested and made many mistakes but was trying to turn his life around."

Obviously not successfully.

I am afraid I shed no tears for criminals that die because of their own actions. He doesn't sound like much of a loss to humanity - it's not as if there is a shortage of criminals anywhere in the world.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/13789616.Scots_family__living_in_fear__after_death_of_alleged_raider_in_Algarve_villa_incident/

HEY had earned enough from their bustling arcade business in Scotland to retire to a quieter life in the Algarve.

But Jill and Trevor Taylor’s dream life in Portugal has been turned into a nightmare since an alleged incident in which an intruder in their home died after being tackled by Mr Taylor and his son.

It has been reported the 60-year-old and his 31-year-old son Scott restrained the man when he was found in the family’s villa while Mrs Taylor, 59, called the police.

Paulo Brito, 35, was named as the alleged raider who was said to have died shortly after police arrived.

The cause of death has not yet been released.

The Taylor family are reported to have gone into hiding now amid fears there could be some form of attack in response.

The keen golfing family were said to have been left living in fear after the incident and have not been seen at their home since the death over a week ago.

While they trust the police investigation will clear them of any wrongdoing, it was reported Mr Brito had criminal connections and this was of concern.

It was claimed Mr Brito had served eight years for violent robberies, was released from prison less than a year ago and was on parole.

The Taylors moved to Portugal several years ago after selling their amusement arcade in Linlithgow, West Lothian.

They are members of a prominent show family who have run fairground attractions for generations.

Mr Taylor’s brother Winstan Taylor, 74, from Glasgow, was quoted as saying: “Trevor is not a guy who will be pushed around but he is not someone you would think would be excessively violent either.

"It's hard to imagine this happening to people like them.”

He said: “I can’t believe Trevor or Scott could intentionally hurt someone.

“I’m sure when the facts come out they will be cleared. I hope so.”

Another family member reportedly said they were shocked at the news but “confident that Trevor and Scott will be proven to have done nothing wrong”.

"Surely they are entitled to defend their homes?"

The sister of the suspected housebreaker told reporters that she questioned why her brother had to die.

Ana Brito said she was angry and grief-stricken and said: "He didn’t try to kill anyone. He didn't have a weapon."

"I understand that if you find someone inside your home you have to defend yourself, but not by killing anyone."

t was also claimed Ms Brito said that although her brother had a troubled past and mental health problems, he was well-liked in the community of Quarteira, nearby the Taylors' Vilamoura home, and his death had devastated her family.

Under Portuguese law, people are allowed to use legitimate force if they believe they are in danger, but if the force is deemed to be excessive they could face legal action.

Police are continuing to investigate the case involving the family who were said to have been questioned by officers but not arrested.

Jay Taylor, one of the couple's sons who works as a golf professional in Orpington Golf Centre in Kent, said earlier his parents were "fine but in shock".

How can the dead criminal be 'well liked' if he has just got out of jail? Oh, I know - well liked by his fellow criminals!

Hard to see what there is to 'investigate', but hey, it's the Algarve police. Rolling Eyes
