See? We're not completely useless.
There''s one good thing about not qualifying - we get to sit on the sidelines and make snarky remarks. Especially about Ingerlund.

If they wanted to fight with jihadists, they would have been better donning their Crusader gear and walking through one of the muslim ghettoes. I doubt if they'll find 'ISIS' outside an Irish bar.

The French police aren't discriminating - they're battering ANYONE caught fighting and causing trouble. Which is perfectly fair.

11 Jun 2016European Championship - Group B. England and Russia draw 1-1
Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at the Stade Velodrome
Posted at 22:53
"As Russia celebrate that late, late equaliser there are some very disturbing scenes behind the goal that was occupied by Joe Hart. Segregation was at best flimsy and Russian fans appeared to rush across in the direction of England's fans, who have now cleared the area. A very bad end to the night."

I hope they've got the Foreign Legion on standby, LL - that was the worst possible result, as BOTH sides will now be angry.
Meanwhile Wales beat Slovakia, and no-one rioted or anything.

England fan fighting for his life and dozens more injured as English fans and Russian thugs clash at Euro 2016 in Marseille

At a glance | Russian Ultras
Russian football hooligans – or Ultras – carry a fearsome reputation and have threatened to launch vicious assaults on England fans.
In the run up to Euro 16 thugs from rival clubs such as Moscow’s Spartak and CSKA threatened to join forces in France against supporters from other countries.
Russian Ultras have already turned many of their domestic games into a battleground. The gangs are frequently dominated by extreme-right wing militants, openly waving flags displaying neo-Nazi symbols.
Spartak followers, along with hooligans from other Russian clubs, have attacked police and thrown flares and smoke bombs onto the pitch before the matches.
There are fears they will deliberately target England black and Asian supporters and direct racist chants at the team.
In 2013 UEFA punished CSKA Moscow with a partial stadium ban on supporters after monkey chants were aimed at Yaya Toure during a Champions League game against Manchester City.

Re: Battles of the European Cup.....
The scenes inside the stadium last night were appalling, LL - the ordinary families, with children, who'd gone thinking football had cleaned its act up must have been terrified.
I couldn't work out why on earth N. Ireland and Poles would be fighting, but I gather that was caused by Polish 'ultras'?

Most likely. This strikes me, and my son agrees, like a concerted effort by the neo-nazis and far right wing supporters to cause mayhem at every possible venue - the Welsh and Slovakians are considered as very small fry with no leverage of any sort so not worth the trouble of trying to incite rioting at their match. Below is a link to who is up next for the matches, take your pick as to which one might erupt into violence. LL

ETA The Poles and the N Ireland team are due to play today, so why indeed were they fighting?

Re: Battles of the European Cup.....
It doesn't seem to have been the genuine fans fighting, LL, they'd all been quite happy - the Ultras would appear to have steamed into anyone normal regardless of nationality.
Oh Lord, I don't like the look of ANY of today's, but if you asked me to pick one, I'd say Germany - Ukraine. Seemingly there is a pack of Ukranian Ultras there, so I shudder to think what they're like.

Re: Battles of the European Cup.....
According to this report, it was local French Ultras:
http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/uk-world-news/violence-nice-northern-ireland-poland-8171259#vEG7kz1hsDpKoWwM.97
Fighting broke out in Nice tonight when Irish and Polish fans were attacked by locals as the Euros were marred by violence.
Witnesses said local hooligans from the “Nice Ultras” started brawls with travelling fans ahead Ireland and Poland’s match today.
Glasses were hurled as thugs fought on the streets while riot police tried to regain control of the situation.
Ireland and Poland fans had earlier been applauded for sharing selfies and singing together ahead of the fixture in the Allianz Riviera stadium at 5pm on Sunday.
The Record also dug out this...

THE advert, paid for by Bordeaux council, was taken out in the Record after Scotland crashed out of the 1998 World Cup, and praised fans for their good behaviour.

Re: Battles of the European Cup.....
My son reckons the most dangerous match will be Russia v Ukraine, Germany has no particular 'beef' with Ukraine, whereas the hatred between Russia and Ukraine over the Crimea is very bad. And then there is Germany v Turkey and Russia v Turkey as the 'Armenian genocide' argument has reached boiling point. Germany and Russia having recognized the massacre as genocide. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36509914

I've just realised, LL - without sound, it's virtually impossible to tell half-naked Russian thugs from half-naked English thugs. The Russian ones are maybe a bit thinner, and I assume their tatooes are in cyrillic, but apart from that....
I assume the police can tell which is which when they start shouting.

Re: Battles of the European Cup.....
They're all awful. I couldn't care if the French set the Foreign Legion on the whole lot of them, then threw them all out of the country in the clothes they stand up in.
Decent people have saved up for this, and looked forward to cheering on their team, and having some nice fun.

Re: Battles of the European Cup.....
Uefa has threatened to disqualify England and Russia from Euro 2016 if there is any further violence by fans.
It has begun disciplinary proceedings against Russia - but not England - after "totally unacceptable" scenes at Saturday's England-Russia game
Good.
