...... on this day 15 years ago, the horror of the twin towers, the attack on the Pentagon and the passengers and crew of the plane who tried to stop the hijackers and gave their lives in the attempt. RIP Lamplighter

Like the assassination of JFK, you never forget what you were doing when news of the attack first came through...
Doubtless the conspiracy theorists will be out in force today, with their 'jet fuel can't melt steel beams' nonsense - in complete denial of science and physics.

No idea where I was when JFK shot, but the 9/11 attacks happened to impact on my cousin, so I always remember the twin towers, I am wearing my Ground Zero t-shirt as I always do on this sad day. LL

That's an interesting piece, from eye-witnesses to the sheer chaos and lack of solid information as the attack unfolded, who were with George Bush on 9/11.

My friends - he a retired USAF fighter pilot and his wife had tickets for the flight 11 Boston to L.A.
The evening before, after their hoped for events that day did not happen, the wife decided they must go home to L.A. early. He argued with her etc.
Anyway, they went out to L.A. to the relief of so many people.

It's no comfort to those who lost loved ones, Lily, but 9/11, bad as it was, could have been so much worse...maybe the terrorists didn't expect so many thousands of people to manage to get out of the Towers?
