Iraq: IS launches chlorine gas attacks in western Mosul
By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA
Apr. 15, 2017 8:45 AM EDT

BAGHDAD (AP) — An Iraqi military officer says Islamic State militants have launched a gas attack in a newly-liberated area in western Mosul.

The officer with the anti-terrorism forces said Saturday that the attack occurred the night before in the al-Abar neighborhood, when IS fired a rocked loaded with chlorine. He said seven soldiers suffered breathing problems and were treated in a nearby field clinic.

The officer spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to release information.

U.S.-backed Iraqi forces are currently battling IS militants in the more densely-populated western half of Mosul. Iraqi officials say more than half of western Mosul has been retaken. The extremists were driven out of the eastern half of Mosul, Iraq's second-largest city, in January.

US, Aussie advisers caught in ISIS chemical attack against Iraqi troops in Mosul
Published time: 19 Apr, 2017 09:42

The Iraqi unit targeted on Sunday in a chemical weapons attack in Mosul was hosting embedded foreign military specialists, according to officials and media reports. American and Australian troops were unharmed by the toxic agent used by Islamic State.
The attack in western Mosul was the second in two days. According to CBS News, 25 people required medical treatment in the aftermath, which is significantly larger than the figure voiced earlier by Iraqi officials. Earlier reports said six soldiers were sent to a field hospital after having breathing problems.

Australian military advisers were involved in the attack by Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), the country’s Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull confirmed on Wednesday.

“My advice right at the moment is that no Australian troops were affected by the chemical attack,” he told ABC radio.

“Australian troops, Australian forces, did provide assistance following the attack. That's my current advice received in last few minutes.”

The Australian Defense Ministry called the attack “failed” and said it highlighted IS’s “desperation as Iraqi ground forces continue operations to liberate Mosul.”

The Pentagon released a similarly dismissive statement, labeling IS chemical weapons “rudimentary” and largely ineffective.

No official identification of the agent used in the attack was released so far, but according to the CBS report it was mustard gas.

The operation to retake Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, is currently in its seventh month. While Iraqi troops and their allies vastly outnumber IS fighters, the progress has been slow as terrorist use car bombs and urban guerrilla tactics to harass and deter the attackers.

Mosul residents have been caught in the crossfire of the operation, with thousands reportedly killed and hundreds of thousands fleeing the city.

https://www.rt.com/news/386286-damascus-airport-blast-fire/

According to “senior” Syrian rebel sources who spoke to Reuters, the blasts allegedly struck an ammunition warehouse “used by Iranian-backed forces.” At least five explosions were reported, although it was not clear if they were caused by a missile or an airstrike.

Meanwhile, Al-Manar, a TV channel affiliated with the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, said in an unsourced report that the blasts at Damascus Airport were likely caused by Israeli Air Force strikes as cited by Reuters.

An unnamed “regional intelligence source” said the Israeli Air Force targeted Hezbollah’s “arms supply hub” used to stockpile weapons and ammunition coming from Iran on “commercial and military cargo aircraft.”

The source, who refused to provide further details, added the arms depot was crucial for Tehran-backed militias fighting Syrian rebels.

God forbid the weapons should be used against Israel's ISIS chums. Any sign of Israel getting their ar@ses out of Syrian territory yet, or is it different when 'plucky little Israel' grabs other people's territory?

US strikes Syria to protect British and American special forces
A pro-Assad convoy, including tanks, apparently ignores warnings from the US and Russia before it is destroyed.

US warplanes have struck Syrian pro-regime forces in a mission to protect British and American soldiers in the country's southeast.

The airstrikes, which killed Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militia, occurred close to the border with Iraq.

US defence secretary Jim Mattis denied the destruction of the convoy, which included a number of tanks, marked an escalation in the American role in Syria.

"We are not increasing our role in the Syrian civil war," he said. "But we will defend our troops."
..etc.

Your troops are in Syria illegally, you warmongering cnut. You've attacked Syrian troops on Syrian soil - not for the first time.
