We have to accept that Assad will win in Syria – and the West should be ashamed of how we drew the conflict out

Anyone still doubting who the bad guys are here should look long and hard at those pictures of government-held Syria.

What do they think Al Nusrah, AQ, ISIS and all the other headchoppers and sadists currently infesting east Aleppo would do to all those people with nice cars and homes, all those women going to school and university, all the Christians and other minorities that are protected by Assad?

What kind of a bloodbath do the handwringers think that would be?

Anyone that has helped prolong this, who has armed these scumbags, should frankly be in front of a War Crimes trial.

More than Assad it is Syria and the majority of its people that will "win". And what they "win" is to keep their country secular and out of the hands of islamic extremists, Assad having acted as best he could in the circumstances to defend the well being of the secular and minority majority of Syrians.

And if I were Syrian I would try taking a class action suit against the US, UK and other European allies along with their middle eastern paymasters for compensation for the horrendous damages caused with the military and financial aid they negligently gave to a bunch of jihadi and islamic extremists who have used these to ruin the lives of generations of peaceful and secular Syrians probably for decades to come.

Not a lot of sympathy for the headchoppers in comments, but a great deal of anger at the West for helping do this to Syria.

I would tell you, I was a forward air controller in Vietnam with the 1st Marine Regiment, dropped probably 100 tons of bombs easily, thousands of bombs. And I’m sure that I killed many civilians. I never intended to kill a single civilian.

But it is a fact of warfare. When the enemy chooses to fight in urban areas, there are going to be civilians killed – unless those forces tell the civilians to leave. And civilians can leave quite safely. In fact, a group of them tried earlier, after Syria announced free passage and the rebels murdered 26 of them because they will not allow any of them to leave. That’s not Russia’s fault, and that’s not Syria’s fault. It is the rebels’ fault primarily.

But at the same time, you can’t discard the paymasters for the rebels. Who pays ISIS, who pays Al-Qaeda in East Aleppo? They are paid for by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, by the United States, by NATO. These are the people that fund these terrorists, they have got a tremendous investment, and this is why you’re hearing this panicking, hyperbolic language that compares, for goodness sake, Aleppo with the battle for Berlin, where there were, you know, 1.25 million people who died in the battle for Berlin. Give me a break. There's not anywhere even close to that number of civilians even who exist in east Aleppo.

I think the whole thing is a propaganda ploy, I think there’s a sense of desperation that the rebels - the terrorists we have been supporting to try to topple the government - are on their last leg there. And I think diplomatically they are trying to give them every bit of assistance there.


I would say there actually are resemblances to the fall of Berlin, in that the jihadists are stopping civilians from leaving, and forcing young men to fight for them, or get murdered on the spot.

These propaganda efforts to cast Banana as the 'Anne Frank of Aleppo' are particularly disgusting.

Because of the privileged position of her family in the terrorist hierarchy, she has more in common with nazis than their victims.

Hard to work out what is actually happening in eastern Aleppo, so much propaganda and counter-propaganda is being thrown around, but the Syrian army and its allies do seem to be making big advances.

And the jihadists, sorry, 'heroic freedom fighters, Last Clowns, Last Doctors, Last Bakers, etc', are reporting to be turning on each other.
