I have been to Sweden many times when I was younger and I found them unflappable, even stolid and very pragmatic.    LL

There are worse virtues.

Stockholm suspect was failed asylum-seeker; 2nd man arrested.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — The Stockholm truck attack suspect was a rejected asylum-seeker from Uzbekistan who eluded authorities' attempts to deport him by giving police a wrong address, Swedish police said Sunday while announcing the arrest of a second suspect.

Jan Evensson of the Stockholm police told a news conference that the 39-year-old suspect's request for a residence permit was rejected in June 2016, but police could not find him to send him back to his native country because he was not at the address he had given. Swedish police started formally seeking him on Feb. 24.

"We know he has been sympathetic to extremist organizations," said Jonas Hysing of Sweden's national police. He declined to name the suspect, who was arrested within hours of Friday's attack on shoppers in Stockholm.

A second person has been arrested in connection with the attack and is suspected of terrorist offenses, including murder, spokeswoman Karin Rosander told The Associated Press. She did not give further details about the new suspect. Four others were being held by police.

Norway raises threat level after bomb find, Russian arrested.

Norway's intelligence agency raised the national threat level on Sunday after a 17-year-old Russian was arrested on suspicion of placing a homemade bomb in central Oslo.

The domestic intelligence agency PST said an attack was now "probable" rather than "possible", because of the risk of a copycat attack after recent assaults in Stockholm, Saint Petersburg, London, Berlin and Nice.

The new threat level will be in place for two months.

"It's not clear whether the 17-year-old young man intended to commit a terrorist attack," PST chief Benedicte Bjørnland told reporters.

The teen's lawyer, Aase Karine Sigmond, said her client rejected the allegations, as well as claims in the media that he was an Islamic State (Isis) sympathiser.

"It was a boy's prank," she told broadcaster NRK.

The intelligence agency was trying to determine whether he had acted alone.

The incident came after a deadly truck attack that left four people dead and 15 injured in Stockholm in neighbouring Sweden.

The main suspect in that attack, a 39-year-old man from Uzbekistan, had shown an interest in jihadist groups like Isis and had had his permanent residency application rejected, police said Sunday.

Norwegian police had earlier announced that they had carried out a controlled explosion overnight Saturday and that they had made an arrest.

Police had cordoned off part of Oslo's busy Grønland district and evacuated local bars and restaurants after the device was discovered Saturday evening.

The device turned out to be a "primitive explosive device" with the capacity to cause only "limited" damage, said another PST official, Signe Alling.

The suspect had arrived in Norway in 2010 with his family, which had sought asylum. He was already known to intelligence circles.

"He was cause for concern previously, but we don't want to comment on which milieu he was part of," Bjørnland said.

Memories are still fresh in Norway of the July 2011 twin attacks perpetrated by right wing extremist Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in a bombing near the government offices in Oslo and a gun rampage on the Utøya island.

I am sure that would have been a great comfort to anyone within range of the 'limited damage'.

Man arrested near Leipzig was 'planning attack in Berlin'.

A man arrested in a police raid near Leipzig at the weekend was suspected of plotting an attack in Berlin, German media have reported.

According to police, a man in his mid-twenties from North Africa was arrested at a refugee home in Borsdorf near Leipzig in the early hours of Saturday. Police reported that the arrest had prevented a potential “acute crime” after state authorities in Saxony received evidence on Friday.

Local newspaper Leipziger Volkszeitung reported that the man was suspected of plotting an attack in Berlin, and is also believed to have made a bomb threat on February 8th that triggered a major police operation in the town.

Police would not confirm the report to DPA on Sunday.

The evidence that led to the arrest came on the same day that an Uzbek man drove a truck into a popular shopping area in Stockholm on Friday, killing four people. Police there have said that the man had “shown interest” in extremist organizations such as Isis.

Germany has been on heightened terror alert after its own recent terror attack in which a man drove a truck into a crowded Berlin Christmas market in December, killing 12 people, in the name of Isis.

On Friday Chancellor Angela Merkel said through a spokesman that Germany stands with Sweden against terror.

"Our thoughts go out to the people in Stockholm, to the injured, their relatives, rescuers and police. We stand together against terror," the spokesman said on Twitter.

On Friday Chancellor Angela Merkel said through a spokesman that Germany stands with Sweden against terror.

Yup, that'll help. Fine words always stop trucks hi-jacked by crazies.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/10/stockholm-terror-suspect-boasted-had-run-10-people-whatsapp/

The man suspected of ploughing a truck into a crowd of people in central Stockholm chatted with Isil supporters before and after the attack, boasting in one message that he had "run over ten people", it has been claimed.

Rakhmat Akilov, a failed asylum seeker from Uzbekistan, had been in contact with an extremist calling himself Abu Fatyma via the online messaging service WhatsApp, Swedish newspaper Expressen reported.

According to unverified screenshots of the WhatsApp messages published by Expressen, Akilov told Fatyma he was trying to build a bomb.

"How do I make explosives? Tomorrow I want to find a car and run it into a crowd," he is said to have written.

"Do not waste time in vain," Fatyma replied.

After hijacking a truck as it waited at a restaurant near Queen's Street, Akilov is said to have driven it at high speed and crashed it into the Ahlens department store, killing four people and injuring 15 others.

Sweden attack suspect denied request for Sunni Muslim lawyer.

The prime suspect in the Stockholm truck has demanded that his state-appointed lawyer be replaced with a Sunni Muslim – a request that was refused, according to official court documents.

Rakhmat Akilov, a 39-year-old Uzbek national believed to have symphathized with jihadist groups, is being held on suspicion of driving a stolen truck into pedestrians on a busy street in central Stockholm before it crashed into a department store. Four people were killed and 15 others injured.

Akilov, a construction worker who had been refused permanent residency in Sweden, was arrested several hours after the attack in Märsta, a suburb around 40 kilometres north of central Stockholm.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a court document seen by AFP, Akilov's state-appointed lawyer Johan Eriksson said his client had asked him to “relieve himself of his mission”, saying he “expressly wanted to be defended by a Sunni Muslim”.

Akilov had argued that “only a lawyer of this faith could assert his interests in the best way”, the statement said.

But judge Malou Lindblom dismissed the request “for lack of sufficient reasons”, in a written decision sent to AFP.

Akilov is due to appear in court at 10am on Tuesday for a magistrate to decide whether to remand him in custody.

I hope the court is shown the pictures of the deaf eleven-year-old who was, literally, torn in half by the murderous cnut.

And of the poor dog with it's entrails all over the pavement, courtesy of the religion of peace. Or will the Swedes keep on denying the reality of what they've done with their multi-kulti insanity?
