Twitter troll: What I said was utterly appalling and disgusting.
By Emily Thomas
Newsbeat reporter

Convicted troll - 'What I said was appalling and disgusting' _79063280_image4

A woman who was sent to prison for sending abusive tweets has told Newsbeat she is disgusted by what she has done.
Isabella Sorley, 24, was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail in January for sending menacing tweets towards the feminist campaigner, Caroline Criado-Perez.
In one of the tweets she threatened to do worse things than rape her.
Sorley told us she'd never met a victim of trolling - so we took her to meet Natalie.
The 18-year-old was at one stage bullied so mercilessly on social media sites, she says she felt suicidal.

'Nice person?'
Natalie was nervous about coming face-to-face with a troll but she was keen to find out what kind of person sends abuse online.
"I'd say I'm quite a nice person," Sorley tells her.
"If you're such a good person," asks Natalie. "Why did you send tweets - including 'Go kill yourself', 'Rape?! I'd do a lot worse things than rape you!!' and 'just got out of prison and would happily do more time to see you buried'?"
"I'd been on an incredibly heavy night out," says Sorley. "It was 80p a drink. So, take 20 quid, you're going to be smashed.
"I can't completely blame alcohol but it's definitely got a part to play in it. I'm a follower, not a leader, and I saw a lot of people were sending those tweets.
"To say that I'd do worse things than rape is utterly appalling, it's disgusting.
"I've questioned myself - is there something wrong with my mental state?" she says.

"Did you feel powerful when you sent those tweets?" asks Natalie.
"I spent six weeks of my life in a prison cell trying to figure out why I sent those tweets and how it made me feel," says Sorley.
"I guess I'd be lying if I said you didn't kind of have the upper hand against the victim. But I didn't do it for a reaction.
"It's the sort of stuff I'm prone to say when drunk and social media allowed me to use my vile mouth in a different outlet."
Natalie isn't satisfied with that and says: "When you're drunk you can still control your actions towards other people."
Sorley replies: "I don't want to put all the blame on alcohol as ultimately I've got my own mind, but it definitely distorted my brain.

"When I woke up I realised what I'd said was completely out of order."

After she was charged, Sorley sent another barrage of tweets including: "You're on Twitter then you should expect some sort of abuse."
She also wrote: "You can't handle letters on a page. Letters have never done any harm."
Natalie says: "A couple of words to me meant everything. I was thinking of suicide because of letters on a page that apparently don't mean anything."
Sorley admits the tweets were "lacking empathy".
She adds: "It was just my ill-judged opinion of the situation at the time".
The reality of what she had done sunk in during the court case, she says.
'Prolonged hatred'
Sorley has never met Caroline Criado-Perez and there's a restraining order in place meaning she can't make contact.
But Newsbeat spoke to Caroline about her ordeal.

The 30-year-old became a focus for internet bullies last year, after successfully winning a campaign to get the Bank of England to keep female historical figures on bank notes.
"For about two months I was getting threats coming in pretty much every minute," she says. "People were telling me they were going to gang rape me.
"They found an address that was connected to me and they posted it all over the internet and they said that they were going to hunt me down and kill me.
Jump media playerMedia player helpOut of media player. Press enter to return or tab to continue.
null
Caroline says she was so scared by the online abuse that she couldn't sleep
"I was obviously absolutely terrified. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I couldn't get any work done.
"It's made me a lot more anxious as a person, a lot more worried about the reaction to what I'm going to say - you can't escape unscathed

"I was obviously absolutely terrified. I couldn't sleep, I couldn't eat, I couldn't get any work done.
"It's made me a lot more anxious as a person, a lot more worried about the reaction to what I'm going to say - you can't escape unscathed from that level of prolonged fear and hatred."
Three people have now been given prison sentences for the abuse they directed at Caroline and she says she "feels luckier than most victims of online abuse" because she got "some justice".
But she says: "What we actually need to do is to stop people wanting to say this stuff in the first place. And that's going to come from education and changing how society works."

As for Sorley, Caroline says: "It doesn't really make a huge difference to what happened to me, what she goes on to do. I'm pleased if she can use this experience to teach other people not to do this."

More trouble
Since coming out of prison in February, Sorley has been convicted for battery, assault and being drunk and disorderly. She's also been back to prison.
She says all of these convictions are down to alcohol and now she's given up drinking and wants to warn young people of the dangers of trolling.

"I want to warn people about what happened to me, and hopefully through being known as a Twitter troll, I can help kids in the future not muck up their life the way I mucked up mine," she says.
Natalie wants Sorley to know how it feels to be on the receiving end of online abuse.
"People were telling me to go and kill myself, I should get cancer, I'm ugly, I'm a terrorist, and they're going to kill me," says Natalie.
"I'd sit at home shaking like a leaf. Terrified of everybody I meet, everything. And that's because of what people like you did."

She tells Sorley she wants her to "vow you'll never do anything like this again ever".
Sorley says she'll never send menacing tweets again, adding: "That ten minutes of my life when I sent those tweets will now define me. Always."

So what did the women think of each other?
Natalie says that after her initial fears about meeting Sorley, she was pleased to have had the opportunity to try to understand what a convicted troll is thinking.
Sorley says: "It was emotional seeing it from the other side. I've never actually had to listen to someone who has dealt with cyber bullying."

That was interesting.  We have seen some of the antis online who have seemed to be smashed out of their minds.  I won't bother to name them, we know who they are.

Indeed - some of the leading haters are very obviously drunk, at all times of the day. Others think it's big and clever to boast about their drug use.

It seems to have come as a shock to Sorley to discover that no, the real world didn't think she was a 'nice' person. I suspect the same thing dawned on Ms Leyland, too, after her neighbours and family had made their feelings about her nasty internet activities clear.

Agreed. Intriguing.

A lot seems to be blamed on alcohol. In fact this Sorley creature is a bit self pitying "it was the drink wot made me do it". But the shame only seemed to kick in after she was caught.

I am afraid I dont really buy the "alchohol" excuse - I would guess most of us drink a fair bit sometimes. But dont immediately reach for the pitchfork and keyboard.

It does also show up that the nastiness of the online threats seem to be in inverse proportion to the adequacy of the person issuing them.

It's interesting, though how many trolls attempt to evade responsibility for their own horrible behaviour. That one blames drink, and it's glaringly obvious that a good few of the McCann-haters are posting drunk.

BUT - how many times have we seen them attempt to excuse their vile conduct by blaming the victim? Them McCanns make my p*ss boil is a favourite - a lot of the haters seem to suffer from overheating urine, for some odd reasons.

Then there are their excuses for their obscene photoshopping - Them McCanns make me mad, etc.

And I wonder just how prevalent mental illness is amongst conspiracy theorists?

Neither of which 'the McCanns' have actually done, but that doesn't stop the hater from inventing an excuse for its hatred, and blaming the victim.

True.

And there is the pitchfork paradox

"I can say what I want about them McCanns - its my right to freedom of expression."

And then either

"they bastards have objected - help help i'm being repressed"

Or

"they bastards have not objected - so I must be right then".

Either way they can "win" an illogical argument.

Convicted troll - 'What I said was appalling and disgusting' Empty Trolls force Sara Payne off twitter

Post  bb1 Tue Nov 18, 2014 10:24 am

http://news.sky.com/story/1375279/sara-payne-quits-twitter-after-decade-of-abuse

Sara Payne Quits Twitter After Decade Of 'Abuse'
The mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne has endured years of "stalking and harassment", a friend claims.

Campaigner Sara Payne, whose daughter Sarah was abducted and killed in 2000, has closed her Twitter account after reportedly enduring years of "unrelenting" harassment.

Fellow campaigner and close friend Shy Keenan tweeted that Mrs Payne had been "forced to close down her Twitter account" after enduring an "unrelenting" campaign of online abuse.

She told Sky News that she and a number of Mrs Payne's associates had suffered "10 years of stalking and harassment" across numerous social media platforms.

Ms Keenan said much of the abuse was related to Sarah, who was murdered near her grandparents' home in West Sussex in 2000.

Convicted paedophile Roy Whiting is serving a life sentence for the eight-year-old's murder.

More recent posts referenced Sarah's father Michael, who was found dead at his home in October.

Ms Keenan said she, Mrs Payne and several others have reported the allegations and a police investigation is under way.

Mrs Payne MBE became a child protection campaigner after her daughter's death.

Sarah's Law, which allows parents to check whether people with access to their children are sex offenders, was introduced in 2011.

Poor woman - but it's not surprising. Both Ms Payne and Ms Keenan have been on the receiving end of the most vile abuse from trolls. It's worth reading up on what both ladies have to say on the subject; some are just run-of-the-mill mentally disturbed trolls, but others are more sinister.

Both ladies have noticed that there is a certain element that always abuses the parents of missing or murdered children, and never the abductor, and they have a pretty good idea why that is.........

Congratulations antis, you have helped drive one of the worlds best campaigners off twitter. We have all seen the abuse both Sara and shy have received at your hands on twitter, and we have also seen the evil you have written about sara and her daughter on Jill haverns site.
What do you think will happen. Do you think Sara and others you abuse are just going to go away, stop their campaigns to help children, or do you think more and more people will be driven off social media so that it becomes the domain of the inadequate? You are not making Sara irrelevant, you are making social media irrelevant.

The mother of murdered schoolgirl Sarah Payne has been forced to quit Twitter after years of 'unrelenting' abuse, mainly by trolls delighting in the death of her daughter.
Dr Sara Payne endured 'stalking and harassment' online, including by a convicted paedophile, her closest friend has said.
Shy Keenan, who is a child protection campaigner said today Ms Payne was 'forced to close down her Twitter account' and called for the suspects to be arrested.
The abuse Dr Payne suffered increased in recent weeks, particularly after the death of her ex-husband Michael, 45.

I see the pieces of sh*t involved in this sickening story:

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/madison-horns-dad-thought-taking-4696342

Madison Horn's dad thought about taking his own life after reading sick Facebook posts mocking his daughter's murder

have previous 'form' for mocking Madeleine McCann.

And those apples didn't fall far from the tree:

A woman who said she was the boys’ mother Deborah later called the Record to claim we had no right to publish the story on the twins’ vile posts. She said she would be going to a lawyer if we did.

She moaned: “You can’t post anything on Facebook now. People are offended by anything.”

When it was pointed out that the post was joking about a toddler being battered to death with a pool cue, she admitted: “It’s bad. I’m not in favour of it. I’ll be talking to my sons about it.”

Asked how any right-minded person could be in favour of sharing such a “joke”, the woman insisted: “It’s just boys having a laugh.

“They probably think that’s funny. It doesn’t mean they are bad people.”

She maintained the Record would be sued if we ran the story.

But on being told we intended to publish, and being asked if she had a quote she wanted us to use on her behalf, she replied: “You can ram it up your a**e” and hung up.

I doubt if anyone would be surprised if that charmer turned out to be a member of one of the hate groups.

http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/record-view-put-vile-troll-4696382

HOW do you account for a mentality that finds humour in the murder of a two-year-old?

To virtually everyone in Scotland, the appalling death of Madison Horn prompted feelings of utter revulsion.

But to twisted twins Calum and Calvin Borland, her killing provoked laughter . For them, it was an opportunity to crack a joke.

Some of their friends even posted their approval of the sick online gag.

Like the twin trolls, they should hang their heads in shame – but no doubt, like the pathetic pair, they won’t.

The Borlands initially denied making the offensive comments, then attempted to shift the blame. Finally, they tried to hide behind the threat of legal action.

It was nobody’s business, their family whined. Tell that to Madison’s grief-stricken relatives who witnessed the online bile.

Too many internet users believe social media allows them free rein to circulate the vilest of views.

Then when confronted, they bleat excuses ranging from freedom of speech to people being over-sensitive.

Their attempted justifications are weasel words from inadequates who shirk any responsibility for their actions.

The Borland boys should be made to face up to their behaviour in court. And let’s see them post a joke about that.

Convicted troll - 'What I said was appalling and disgusting' Empty Another troll jailed

Post  bb1 Tue Dec 23, 2014 11:32 am

http://news.stv.tv/east-central/304465-shaun-moth-jailed-for-12-months-after-posting-comments-about-mikaeel-kular/

Man who posted he hoped missing child Mikaeel was 'under bus' jailed

A Facebook 'troll' has been sentenced to a year in jail for offensive online comments mocking a toddler beaten to death by his mother.

Shaun Moth posted abuse about Mikaeel Kular on the social networking site the day before the three-year-old boy's body was found in woodland in Kirkcaldy.

The 45-year-old, who lives in Whitehills in Aberdeenshire, posted the remarks on an anti-racism page as a major police search was underway for the missing toddler.

On Monday, Moth was sentenced at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to 12 months in jail.

He previously pleaded guilty to conducting himself in a disorderly manner, posting grossly offensive comments on Facebook and breaching the peace - aggravated by religious prejudice.

Sheriff William Summers said Moth had exploited the media attention around the search for Mikaeel in order to "peddle vile abuse".

The sheriff said: "We live in a multi racial and multi ethnic society that remains tolerant of others.

"You are entitled to hold whatever views that you want and to hold them strongly.

"But what you said in these posts was at times grotesque.

"Anyone who disseminates this sort of material must recognise that they will be brought to justice.

"This matter is so serious it seems to be that a custodial sentence is the only option."

Mikaeel, from Edinburgh, was reported missing by his mother on January 16 this year.

A huge search operation was launched with hundreds of members of the public joining police officers to look for the toddler.

Police later discovered the child's body in a woodland in Kirkcaldy and his mother Rosdeep Adekoya later admitted culpable homicide and was jailed for 11 years.

Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard previously when Moth made the comments online on January 16 the case was still being treated as a missing person inquiry.

Fiscal depute David Bernard said: "On that date a post was put on the page for a group entitled Scotland United Against the racist SDL [Scottish Defence League].

"During the evening of January 16, one of the administrators for that Facebook page logged on to the page and that account to view recent activity.

"At this time she noticed a comment about the missing child which was made at 5:45pm that day by a user named Shaun Moth.

"The comment read 'Hopefully he'll be found... under the wheels of a bus'."

Several other comments were posted on Facebook by Moth and the page account administrator was "so offended" she decided to hide them from public view.

Among them was a statement from Moth that he would laugh when others wept when the kid's body turned up.

Another post read: "I care not. One less ethnic regardless of his age is a good thing. Said what I wanted to and annoyed a few of your ilk.

"My work is done here. wpww 14/88."

Mr Bernard said the acronym wpww was understood to stand for White Power World Wide and 14/88 was a Neo-Nazi term for "Heil Hitler".

Moth also posted the comment: "Do you look for missing white kids as well?" on the social networking page and called for another account user to concentrate on getting "that Arab loving ape" out of the White House.

The court heard that Moth also posted a comment about Jews on the page.

The Facebook administrator contacted the police and officers carried out a search of his property on January 29.

During his police interview, he described himself as a Nationalist Socialist and told officers that he often went on to the Facebook page for debate.

Defence agent Stuart Beveridge said on Monday that his client had "strong views" and that he was abusing alcohol and drugs at the time he made the comments.

Mr Beveridge said: "He accepts that his comments were callous and in the extreme. He has been out of work for six years. He was drinking heavily and routinely using cocaine.

"He enjoys the process of argument and debate. He accepts that he has strong views and went too far on this occasion."

Convicted troll - 'What I said was appalling and disgusting' Empty Re: Convicted troll - 'What I said was appalling and disgusting'

"He enjoys the process of argument and debate. He accepts that he has strong views and went too far on this occasion."

That is precisely the sort of excuse the haters use for their endless obscenities and abuse. And it has often been noted that many of them appear to be under the influence of drink or drugs - some even boast about their drug use.

Glasgow crash: Man arrested over tweet

A man has been arrested over an offensive tweet about the bin lorry crash in Glasgow in which six people died and ten were injured.

The posting was reported just before 21:00 GMT on Monday and deleted a short time later, police said.

A 19-year-old man from Sunderland handed himself into police on Monday evening and was arrested on suspicion of making a malicious communication.

He has not been formally named and has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Name the little sh*t, seeing as how he finds death and misery so hilarious.

Good to see the police are taking action over bottomfeeding, scummy trolls.

ETA, looks like the people on the twitter feed know who he is - I saw it yesterday, and have no sympathy for the PoS.

What that troll tweeted was beyond offensive and in no way could be considered humorous.

Glad to see that action on such sick people is being taken.
