Well Tony, we can prove he was a crook right back to the year 2000, or maybe before that.
It was his downfall trying to rob his own brother. He has the gaul to try and blame everyone else but himself.

I am surprised FSoares hasn't identified the thugs in uniform, as she seemed to know all about it when she was talking to Bennett:

the alleged 'torture' commited by the officers who were brought from Lisbon, under Amaral's orders

I would put a small wager on them being the same officers who were shipped down from Lisbon for his 'retiral' bash, as none of the local officers would attend.

I would put a further small wager on the answer lying within the tiny circle of people who are associated with Gonc - Sargento, Flores, Carvalho and Cristovao.

Or how about Arguido Almeida - he is rather keen on beating 'confessions' out of people, isn't he?

Amaral has done this before. I am certain if a close look was taken at his career; they would find more victims. I also believe his cohorts would be in the mix too; how else would he know which cops to call on?

I've just been reading your blog, Tony, yes, you're right, I hadn't registered that before. It can't have been a one-off. No wonder he had to 'retire' early - I bet he knew he was told to 'retire' or get sacked.

I strongly believe Bonny, there is many more victims in Amaral's past.

I expect that the prisons are full of his victims, Tony. They'll have to keep him in Solitary Confinement when he goes down.

But what worries me the most about the thugs from Lisbon is that they had to have been gone from Lisbon for at least 48 hours, what with traveling to The Algarve and back, with several hours of Torture in between. So how did three of them manage that without their Superiors wondering where they were? They can't all have been on a two day break at the same time.

Isn't there something odd about the dates it happened on, Sabot? Some kind of a police holiday or something? I cannot recall exactly, but will go digging....

While you are looking, Bonny, could you check on what the other PJ Officers on duty at The Police Station were doing while Leonor Cipriano was screaming her head off in pain from the beating and the glass ashtrays she was forced to kneel on. I would really like to know that.

I am kicking myself, Sabot, I know this has come up before, and somewhere obscure I discovered there was a very good reason for their absence from Lisbon/the lack of other police not to raise eyebrows. I did not, however, keep a link to it.

Maybe someone else will remember, meanwhile I will keep looking.
