Indian police take DNA from child British and American tourists said was missing Madeleine

The parents of Madeleine McCann are awaiting the results of a DNA test after a young girl suspected of being the missing child was spotted in India.
Kate and Gerry McCann's team of private investigators say they are working with police in the northern city of Leh.
They were alerted after a British woman spotted a girl with a couple that she thought to be Maddie who would now be eight years old.

The woman raised concerns with other tourists who agreed and one, an American man, tried to take the girl from the couple.
The couple, a French woman and her Belgian husband, insist that they are the parents of the girl.
However, police in the city are taking the situation seriously and have taken swabs so that DNA tests can be carried out.
A spokesman for Leh police said: 'It all depends upon the evidence like DNA for which help from Madeleine's parents and the British police was required.
Madeleine was days short of her fourth birthday when she went missing on a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.
Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann, said: 'Our private investigators are aware of the reports from India over the weekend about a possible sighting of Madeleine.
'We are liaising with the Indian authorities over the incident and await the results of the DNA test.'
Maddie's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann marked the fourth anniversary of their daughter's disappearance privately with family and friends.
They recently launched a book about how she disappeared with proceeds from the book, entitled Madeleine, going towards the funding of their search for their daughter.
Despite a massive police investigation and huge publicity worldwide, she has not been found.
The official Portuguese inquiry into Madeleine's disappearance was formally shelved in July 2008, although private detectives employed by the McCanns have continued the search.

Even if it turns out to be nothing, at least people are still alert and looking for Madeleine, despite the efforts of the haters to make everyone think she is dead. I wonder why they do that?

High drama prevailed in the busy Fort Road market of the city last night when three persons identified a six-year-old girl as Madeleine McCann, a British girl who went missing while on a holiday in Portugal in 2007.

The infamous case had hogged limelight when Madeleine disappeared in May 2007 while she was holidaying with her parents and siblings in the Algarve region of Portugal. The minor girl went missing from an apartment a few days before her fourth birthday and has still not been found. According to the Wikipedia and various web portals, Madeline’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann had stated that they had left the children unsupervised in the ground floor bedroom while they were at a restaurant about 120 metres away.

Last night, a British woman saw a French woman with her Belgian husband roaming in the market with a girl who looked like Madeleine. She immediately informed the British police and the Leh police. The local police has taken the passports of the suspects for verification.

The missing girl’s parents have set up a website where they have put up her pictures that were taken in 2007 and also pictures of how she would look like as she would grow up.

As the British woman shared her suspicions with few others and took a picture of the girl, an American youth -- who was also following the couple -- tried to take away the girl from them. He later told the police that he suspected the girl to be Madeleine. Another American woman also shared the suspicion.

The French woman, however, rubbished their claims, saying that she and her husband were the biological parents of the girl.

A local police official said there was worldwide alert for Madeleine and it would be a great honour for the Leh police to find the missing girl. “However, it all depends upon the evidence like DNA for which help from Madeleine’s parents and the British police was required.”

Personally, I find it very telling that the local police would consider it an honour to be the ones who finally find Madeleine.

Pity certain elements around Portimao don't have the same attitude.

Predictably, The Nasties are hoping it isn't Madeleine. But they are working on a McCann plot in case it is.

I am sure it will all become clearer..but yes, Sabot, their reactions have been very revealing.
They really, actively, do not want Madeleine to be found - why is that?

They don't want Madeleine found because they will be forced to look at their appalling behaviour.
And if it is Madeleine, and please God that it is, then they will sink to even greater depths of hysteria and delusion, not to forget obscenity. But I don't suppose that Kate and Gerry will care.

I have no idea what is going on, but the Indian story seems to be spreading like wildfire.

Heaven knows what is going on, the whole thing is bizarre.
What has been most unpleasant to see, however, is the reaction on the hate sites - you know, the ones who pretend they care about Madeleine so much they want her dead? They really do hate the child; it must gall them to see normal, decent people having their hopes raised, and openly praying that this time, Madeleine really has been found.

You are right bonny they have really shown that they dont want Madeleine found alive... they are sick people.
And from the amount of people on twitter hoping that it is Madeleine goes to show that the haters are few

I don't think they hate her, bonny I think what they DO hate is the idea that they might be wrong, that if she turns up there will be much finger-pointing and crowing over them. They seem unable to do what you did, which is to stand back, take a long, deep look at things and THEN admit being wrong. People do find it hard to say 'I was wrong' - it takes a special kind of person who can admit their errors, and don't forget, if this was to be Madeleine, it would all be out in the open, on the TV, in the papers, and you can bet the media will rehash the old lies and smears and point the finger at bennet and his ilk. They will be diminished in peoples' eyes. And with today's technology there is no hiding place, is there? LL

It's all a dastardly plot by The McCanns, doncha know.

They sold Madeleine to these people.

They are paying them to keep Madeleine out of sight while they run up The Fund.

The McCanns released the dark skinned photo of Madeleine because they knew she was in India.

And that's just for starters.

THE grandmother of missing Madeleine McCann have had to dismiss a report that the missing youngster may have been found in India.

Grandmother Susan Healy (pictured with grandfather Brian), the mother of Liverpool-born Kate McCann, told the ECHO: "Kate has been in touch and told me it has been discounted."

But Mrs Healy, who lives in Allerton, added: "As Kate said, the good thing about this reported possible sighting is that there is still an awareness among the public about Madeleine.

"And while this may not have come to anything, we are thankful that people are still looking – hopefully, next time, the result will be different."

Local police were reported to be investigating after a British woman spotted a girl who appeared to resemble Madeleine in a market in the city of Leh in northern India.

A French woman and a Belgian man who were with the girl insisted they were her biological parents but police took their passports to check, the Chandigarh Tribune newspaper reported.

Madeleine was nearly four when she went missing from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3 2007.

Portuguese detectives, helped by officers from Leicestershire Police, carried out a massive investigation into her disappearance.



But the official inquiry was formally shelved in July 2008 and since then no police force has been actively looking for the missing child, who would now be eight.

Scotland Yard launched a review of the original investigation in May after a request from Home Secretary Theresa May, supported by Prime Minister David Cameron.

Hundreds of possible sightings of the little girl around the world have been reported since she went missing, but so far they have all come to nothing.


It must be heartbreaking for the family to have their hopes raised and then dashed yet again.
