Pinto Monteiro is out of PGR, but "Proud"

Attorney general's office six-year term ends next month

A little over a month to complete the term, Pinto Monteiro took an official ceremony yesterday to start the goodbyes prosecutors, being "proud" of the work done as Attorney General of the Republic (PGR).

After six years of a controversial term, marked, among others, the Freeport process - involving Socrates - Pinto Monteiro complains about the "fierce internal and external opposition."

Criticism of the conduct of the PGR, it is in the hands of Justice Minister Paula Teixeira da Cruz, to submit a name to succeed Pinto Monteiro. The process is in her hands and in the prime minister and should be completed with the approval of the President, by the end of next week, since Pinto Monteiro has to leave until 9 October. There are several names on the table, but Candida Almeida, unlike what has been reported, is not part of the list.
