Lawyer convicted of falsifying documents

A lawyer was sentenced on Friday to five years in prison with a suspended sentence for 20 crimes of forgery and 19 crimes of illegal immigration assistance.

The "arguido" was accused, along with his sister, of more than 70 crimes for allegedly forged documents to Brazilian citizens who put themselves in Portugal.

The court acquitted the accused's sister, his secretary, understanding that this was not involved in the scam.

The lawyer, who never admitted the crimes on trial, will still have to pay 25,000 euros to the Association for Victim Support, a condition imposed by the court, which considered very serious crimes against the fact that the "arguido" be a lawyer.
