It would depend upon the initial contracts, Jay. The wording may not have to specifically state publishing by electronic means.

No respectable publisher would willingly risk themselves in such a way unless the projected profits far exceeded the possible damages. Pcorneater

Don't know what they would do in Portugal, Jay, to be honest, was just thinking practices in general.

Here, it would depend upon the legal contracts. Including who owns what, for how long, etc. There are always words like, rights, licenses, assignments, agreements etc. that covers it.

Amaral's money and assets have not been release by the lifting of the ban , so what would happen to the money if he made any more? Would that be seized as well?
I have a very nasty suspicion that it would be.

I think this could be one of the reasons for why Gonc isn't doing anything, no matter how innocuous. Quite probably they seized any money he made on The English Gag.
And if The McCanns don't get it, then there is a fair old queue forming behind them.

1. He won on Free Speach Yuman Rites grounds - nothing to do with libel.

2. It isn't 'his' book - it is the property of the publishers, Guerra & Paz.

3. On Yuman Rites grounds, Gonc can mouth off as much as he wants.

but...

4. He CAN NOT force anyone to buy or sell 'his' book; if G & P do not want responsibility for it, then there is naff all Gonc can do.
