Former vice president of Sporting asked and was accepted. Court has already started the jury selection process.
Paulo Pereira Cristovao, former vice president of Sporting, will be tried by a jury trial, a model that already exists in the Portuguese judicial system, but it is still rarely used. The application filed by the defense and, according to information gathered by the DN, the 8 th Criminal Court of Lisbon has accepted the claim and has begun the process of selecting jurors.
Christopher Pereira, remember, is accused in the so called "Cardinal case" of aggravated fraud, money laundering, embezzlement, unlawful access to personal data and slanderous denunciation. Also a former Inspector of Judicial, Victor Viegas, was accused by prosecutors
Under the law, the judges deliberate on the so called "facts", that is, on the evidence gathered by prosecutors over those presented by the defense. In turn, the collective of judges will consider the 'matter of law' ", ie if the acts committed by the accused constitute the crimes of which they are accused.
This will be the second time that Paulo Pereira Cristovao will be judged by a jury trial. The first occurred in 2009 when Christopher Pereira, still as inspector of the Judicial Police, was tried on suspicion of assault against Leonor Cipriano, Joana's mother. Let us not forget, forkers' favourite Cristovao left the PJ under a very large cloud after rape allegations against him were dropped, and an internal PJ investigation found him guilty of stealing €800 from them.
