The reconstruction was never to take place. The reasons put forward to justify that decision - in spite of opinions to the contrary - are multiple. There are lots of holiday-makers at this time and sealing off the perimeter would ruin their stay; the airspace would have to be closed; the hotel complex would be overrun with hordes of journalists; people might think that the parents and their friends were suspects and, of course, the field mustn't be left open for that kind of deliberation.

Why, it was Gonc. I wonder if his superiors had realised that, far from trying to find Madeleine McCann, he was hell-bent on framing her parents - had been since the 4th of May, in fact.

That doesn't make sense. There weren't loads of holiday makers, and why would they need to close the airspace, or the perimeter? It only concerned the area around The Taps Bar, and could have been done and finished within a few hours.
And The Complex was already overrun with hordes of Journalists anyway.

Now just why didn't Gonc want a reconstruction? The McCanns did. Was he afraid that it would clear The McCanns, and perhaps find some pointers to the Abductor? Could he see his planned book going down the pan?

Isn't it ridiculous? Why on earth would the airspace need to be closed - it makes no sense. But there it is, from Gonc himself.
I suspect alarm bells must have been going off with the UK police and saner heads in Portugal then. Crimewatch reconstructions happen all the time in the UK without the airspace being closed - the very idea is ridiculous.
So, what was Gonc's real agenda for stopping it?

I totally agree with you both. The idea of closing the airspace is beyond ridiculous and why do it?

Maybe a reconstruction would prove that an abduction was very likely to have happened in the time frame. Also, that it would have been impossible for the McCanns or the Tapas to have been involved with it in any way shape or form.

Now that would put the cat among the pigeons as it would show Gonc's incompetence up loud and clear?

Yes, jjbd and Gonc didn't appear too eager did he? Meanwhile, it is all the McCanns fault........

Can I just point something out? The person who will be in the dock is called 'Goncalo Amaral'; the McCanns don't even really need to attend court, though they may choose to.

Oh well, who cares? They'll find out the truth for themselves
