Oh, that is sad news, LL, he was a wonderful actor, and a great personality! He was magnificent as Saruman in LoTR and the Hobbit:

He never stopped working, LL, he was starring in huge movies right up almost till his death. The Battle of the Five Armies only came out last year.

He and Ian McKellen, as Gandalf, were just born to play wizards.

No comment on McKellan as him I don't particularly like. But I do have one thing over Chris Lee, I was taller than him - and Vincent Price!! I was a great Hammer fan, went to the first showing of Dracula in 1956 - being tall I was able to get into an X-cert film, loved it. But then my No 1 was and still is Peter Cushing. LL

He really was the best Dracula ever - and Hammer Horror films have stood up remarkably well. They made this one in 2012:



and it really was creepy, not like those ghastly American slasher flicks.

He was wonderful in that, too. I watched the remake with Nicholas Cage, and it was woeful, not a patch on the original.

Ron Moody, who played Fagin in the hit film version of Oliver!, has died aged 91.

The actor, who was nominated for the best actor Oscar in 1968 for his performance in the Charles Dickens adaptation, died in hospital.

His widow, Therese, said: "He brought joy to his family and to the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. He was singing until the end."

His agent said he had been ill for some time.

That was one of my favourites, especially as he made Scaramanga rather sympathetic, as he only became an assassin because his pet elephant was mistreated by humans when he was a child...

I'm not a great Bond fan, but that was a good one,

So was this, House of the Long Shadows, a comedy horror ,

Oh, I don't think I've seen that one, LL, I must remember to look out for it on the horror movie channel.

It's a bit like the Vincent Price films, The Raven and The Comedy of Terrors, both co-starring Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre, mickeytakes of horror films. Have you seen either of those? LL

I love The Raven, I went to a midnight showing in London when it first came out, the cinema was full of theater folks and the reception was hilarious!! Comedy of Terrors is about a funeral director who buries dead people, then digs up the coffins, dumps the bodies and recycles them. It also stars Karloff, Lorre plus Basil Rathbone. LL
