Five hundred extra officers are to patrol the Algarve as part of a seasonal boost for summer. The extra GNR, PSP and SEF immigration officers will be reinforcing the region’s safety from today until the 15th of September.
The decision was announced on Saturday by the Ministry for Internal Affairs.
On top of that 386 GNR officers will be permanently assigned to patrolling large events such as football games and the Faro Bike Meet. Crime, particularly serious and violent crime, dropped by 17 percent during the first five months of this year in comparison to the same period of last year
Hopefully, it's finally dawned on the Algarve authorities that blaming the victim when tourists get mugged, robbed, etc., isn't awfully good for their image.
