Terrorist attacks in Chatanooga

BREAKING NEWS: Gunfire broke out at a U.S. Navy office in a Tennessee strip mall and at another military facility nearby Thursday morning, bringing a heavy police response and prompting local colleges and a hospital to be placed on lockdown before authorities gave an all-clear.

The Navy confirmed the shooting in a tweet, saying it occurred at a building on Amnicola Highway in Chattanooga. Reports said a police officer was injured, and additional reports said four others, possibly Marines, were wounded when a lone gunman drove up in a silver Mustank and opened fire with what witnesses told Fox News was a "large black gun."

Law enforcement officials told recruiters at a facility 7 miles away on Old Lee Highway that they also were attacked by a shooter in a car. The shooter stopped in front of the recruiting facility, shot at the building and drove off, said Brian Lepley, a spokesman with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Fort Knox, Ky.

Lepley said the recruiting center on Old Lee Highway has recruiting services for all four branches of the military. The Army recruiters told Lepley they have evacuated and are safe. He has no information about recruiters for the other branches.

BREAKING NEWS: The gunman who shot and killed four Marines Thursday during two attacks at military facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn., has been identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, a law enforcement souce confirmed to Fox News.

The Associated Press reported Abdulazeez, 24, was believed to have been born in Kuwait, although it was not clear if he was a U.S. or Kuwaiti citizen. He was reported to be from Hixson, Tenn., just across the river from Chattanooga.

The law enforcement source said preliminary reports indicate Abdulazeez, who also died, was not on the FBI's radar leading up to Thursday's attacks.....etc.

I know when I heard his name, I felt horrified.

I freely admit, when the first news came through, I was hoping - though that isn't really the right word - that the killer would turn out to be some deranged lunatic with a grudge because his wife had run off with a marine, or something.

'Lone wolf' terrorists are everyone's worst nightmare.

I thought similarly to you earlier, Bonny then when his name was announced, the sense of horror took over.  

Yes they are a worst nightmare.

I assume that, yet again, he knew none of his victims would be armed - the bullet holes round the 'no guns' sign are an ironic touch....

What is amazing is those who think it's a bad idea forget that they are trained to use them.

Friday, Governor Jindal issued an Executive Order authorizing the Adjutant General of the Louisiana National Guard to identify and arm national guard personnel at military facilities in order to protect those facilities. Governor Jindal also issued an Executive Order calling for the flags at all state buildings to be flown at half-staff until July 24, 2015 out of respect for the victims of the Chattanooga, Tennessee terrorist attacks.

Thank God some of the state governors still have a bit of rational thought....

I was watching Obama just flip this off as if it was just more 'workplace violence'. I realised that if something like this had happened under President Reagan, he would have done a presidential broadcast, ordered all flags to be at half-mast, all military to be armed - and generally acted like a president.

Will Obama even bother to send representatives to these men's funerals, or are dead, criminal thugs the only ones worthy of that honour?

I think good is bad and bad is good in Obamaspeak, Bonny.
