All passengers have miraculously survived after an airplane slipped on a runway and crashed in bad weather conditions.

The accident happened at midday on Wednesday in the southern city of Osh, Kyrgyzstan, as the Soviet-built jet tried to land. The plane had originated in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek.



The jet carrying 80 passengers and six crew rolled off the runway, broke its wing, overturned and caught fire, according to officials.

"The landing was performed in thick fog. The plane skidded off the runway and turned to the left side. Its wing was smashed off. A loud explosion was heard," an airport spokesman told the Russian state news agency RIA Novosti.

According to the government, 31 people were injured. 17 out of 31 people are reported to have been hospitalised.

A probe into the crash-landing has been launched.

All the passengers were very lucky.

We were in an emergency landing at B'ham airport having lost an engine en route to Heathrow. Just one week before, another plane had lost its engine, and it flipped on landing, killing everyone on board.

Our pilot made a perfect landing, but most passengers were too shocked to take the later flight put on and were bussed to Heathrow. We took the later flight from Bham, but were told we were too late for the ongoing flight to Canada.
They asked us if we would mind being upgraded to business on the next flight 5 minutes later. The snag was that we had to sit apart.

Jeez, what a snag! Hahaha

I sympathise; I was once on a plane that developed trouble in its port engine, not far from the airport on the way back from Spain, Sadie.

I have never, ever been so scared in my life - it put me off flying for years, even though it landed safely - though rather abruptly. You know there's a problem when the cabin crew go pale

Everyone goes absolutely silent, don't they? Rosaries out, crossing themselves etc.... but then this was my hubbies third emergency landing, so we were fairly relaxed. He used to fly the Atlantic a lot on business.

On the one occasion they thought there was a bomb on board. When they land you in a corner of the airport a long way away from buildings, you know they are worried! Also when they jettison all the fuel before landing and there are 4 vehicles following you along the runway, one at each corner of the plane and with blue lights flashing. That's scary.



Flying is safer than going by bus, and you and we were lucky.

The people on the flight mentioned were less fortunate cos the plane flipped causing physical injury and I would think terrible trauma. But no-one lost their life, thank goodness.

I've flown since, but it put me off for a long time, Sadie. One emergency landing was quite enough!
