Letter from an officer of the Titanic will be auctioned

A letter written by the second officer of the Titanic will be auctioned this month to mark the centenary of the sinking of the vessel and may reach a value of 36,000 euros, was announced today.

The handwritten date of April 7, 1912, seven days before the accident and was written by Henry Wilde, Deputy Captain Edward John Smith, according to the auctioneers Henry Aldridge and Son, quoted by Spanish news agency EFE.

Henry Wilde, who has died to give priority to women and children in lifeboats, the Titanic described the family as a "wonderful boat, the ultimate shipbuilding."
The officer also described the immense work days before the departure of the Atlantic, during Holy Week of 1912.

Henry Wilde was last seen trying to free the strings of two lifeboats, just before the Titanic sinking in the early hours of April 15, 1912.
The letter will be auctioned on March 31.

There's an awful lot of Titanic news starting to appear, so we will have a proper 'Titanic' thread before the end of the month - certainly well before the centenary. smile
