Re: 18 years after he was cleared of attempted murder Briton faces being sent back to prison in Portugal
Tis very strange that this is happening now. How long ago did The Portuguese appeal? Surely they should have done something about this sooner. 18 years is ridiculous.
And No, I don't think The Portuguese are going to get away with this. The time span is far too long. And if it takes Portuguese Courts this long then they are clearly incompetent.

Is it incompetence, or something worse, Sabot?
To be cleared of a crime, but to have to live your life looking over your shoulder, never knowing when you are going to be dragged back to court, smacks very much of the long arm of the police state.
And remember, Portugal doesn't have a proper jury system, so it is wide open to abuse and croneyism by politically-appointed judges.
It's like something out of Kafka.

I don't know, Bonny. It could just be some petty Official with a grudge who has been looking back through The Files for such Cases. I suspect that any Appeal was made several years ago and then dropped because of lack of Evidence. Although they seem to Appeal just because they can. We all know by now that Evidence doesn't seriously come into any of this.
Personally, I wouldn't trust any of them. And I do most sincerely believe that this is Portugal's Own Back strategy.
If Britain goes along with this dreadfully biased EAW then they can kiss goodbye to anything like respect. The whole thing was a cock up from day one. But I at least expect Mr. Mitchell to get as much assistance as Julian Assange, who I also believe should not be extradited.
I don't have a lot of time for Mr. Assange, but that is not the point.

I wonder, does the Portuguese government think this is good for Portugal's image - because it most certainly is not.
It always seems to be UK passport holders they pick on, despite ex-pats being a mainstay of the Portuguese economy, along with UK tourists.
And do not start me on UK taxpayers having to bail out Portugal.
One of these days Portugal is going to wake up and find the Algarve is empty, which would be a great pity, but people are going to start voting with their feet.
And please note:
https://jatyk2.forumotion.co.uk/t1341-trial-of-german-accused-of-killing-partner-child-on-algarve-begins-in-munich
The German accused of killing his partner and child in Portugal is standing trial in GERMANY; Portugal doesn't seem to have a problem with that, though.....

Of course it's not good for Portugal's image, but they don't seem to care about that.
However, I very much doubt you will find many Pitch Forkers going there on holiday whatever they might say. And presuming they could afford to, of course.
But they wouldn't have much of a holiday anyway, with their children chained to them 24/7 as all good parents should.
That man is being tried in Germany because he managed to escape, and Germany isn't having any nonsense with Police Station Stairs. But one might wonder why Portugal didn't try to have him Extradited under The EAW. Or did Germany refuse?
Good on them if they did.

Re: 18 years after he was cleared of attempted murder Briton faces being sent back to prison in Portugal
For the Mitchell case to come to light, someone in the Portuguese Judiciary had to search the data base for it.
This is not someone being diligent in their duty; this has been done out of spite.
The question is, why?

Exactly, Tony. And as to your question, you have answered it yourself. Spite. They want their own back for being shown up for what they have done to Madeleine.
And the Official who found this is almost certainly a part of The Fascist Faction to which Goncalo Amaral and friends belong.
The whole Judicial System is seriously flawed.

It really does look as though Mr. Mitchell is being used as the fall guy for something he had no involvement in.Sabot wrote:crazytony wrote:For the Mitchell case to come to light, someone in the Portuguese Judiciary had to search the data base for it.

Funny how it was FARO police who shoved a gun in his mouth, wasn't it? Why is it always the FARO police?
It was the FARO police who decided Jacinta Rees killed herself by taking an axe to her own head.
FOUR TIMES.

What bothers me so much about the gun incident; isn't the fact the police drew their weapons, it is the fact that they went a step further and assaulted their captive with it.
For them to be able to put the weapon in the defendants mouth, would indicate he was submissive and offered no threat to the arresting officers.

Well they can't extradite The McCanns or The Tapas 7, Tony. So they had to trawl through their data base for someone else who just happens to reside in Britain.
And they can forget Mr Tozer in Australia after what The Portimao PJ did to that poor Australian woman who committed suicide by hitting herself over the head with an axe four times.
Australia won't be playing ball I'm afraid.
And actually, if you think about it they can hardly retry a man who was accused Jointly if they can't lay hands on one of the accused.

He probably had his hand tied or held behind his back, Tony. The PJ are quite good at that. They did the same to Leandro Silva when Goncalo Amaral gave him a beating that put him in hospital.

Is it just Faro law enforcement who portray themselves as thugs; or is all of the Portuguese Judiciary the same?Sabot wrote:crazytony wrote:What bothers me so much about the gun incident; isn't the fact the police drew their weapons, it is the fact that they went a step further and assaulted their captive with it.

Well there does appear to have been some PJ Thugs from Lisbon involved in the beating of Leonor Cipriano.
And anyway, these people are moved to different postings from time to time, and almost certainly take their attitude with them.
Also, it is hardly likely that The Hierarchy don't know what is going on in their own areas of jurisdiction.

It only seems to happen in the Faro area, Tony - in the rest of Portugal, the PJ operate just as a modern police force in a European democracy should.
But Faro gives every impression of being some kind of police state with different rules.

Gonc's cronies and stooges.....probably the same ones he had to import for his party when he 'retired'.

So it does seem to be a little more widespread than The Algarve. Although as I said, these PJ Officers do get moved around a bit from time to time.
And how would Amaral know Officers serving in Lisbon if he hadn't worked with them?

There is still the markings of the P. I. D. E. within the Judiciary, the old masters teaching the new; and thus the vicious circle continues.

Correct again. Tony. Those who are any good, and to be trusted, like Rebelo, get promoted while the likes of Amaral stay at a level where they can infect newcomers.
Hopefully this awful affair will pull a few of them up short, and the rest of them are being watched because they are a colossal embarrassment, to say the least.
I hope Amaral and his buddy will lose their Pensions. That will hit hard, and send a message.

@JohnnyWatergate pro #McCann continue to believe the PJ were trying to frame K & G #ConspiracyTheory
It's almost as far-fetched as Portugal trying to frame a UK citizen for the murder of someone who isn't even dead, after that UK citizen being cleared years ago of any involvement in the incident that led to the non-dead person being injured.
Oh wait, that is exactly what someone in Portugal is trying to do.....

Updates in the comments - and from what I can make out of the Portuguese documents, the not-dead 'murder victim' was actually plain and simply drunk at the time of the accident.

So he probably fell off the wall all by himself.
Interesting though, Anna Raccoon has a copy of The Trial Judgement before The British Authorities. Bloody Hell, what a corker.

You'll laugh at this, Sabot - I just glanced at Amazon; the reality-challenged hanky failed to grasp, well, what anyone here is actually talking about:
