Assange loses appeal against extradition to Sweden
The founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange saw this Wednesday by the British High Court rejected the request not to be extradited from the UK, where he is on probation. Assange is the subject of an extradition request to Sweden, where he is accused of crimes of sexual offenses.
The seven judges declared, by a majority of five votes to two, that allegations of Assange on the invalidity of the arrest warrant from the Swedish authorities are not sustainable. And thus gave reason to the decisions already made before by two other courts in the United Kingdom, the lower courts, that the Australian should indeed be extradited to Sweden.
Assange, accused by a woman of "coercion and sexual assault" and a violation by another in acts allegedly committed in August 2010 in Stockholm, has to be innocent and maintains that these allegations are politically motivated - a reprisal for having published the Wikileaks documents secret that caused intense embarrassment to many governments.
Last February, the lawyers claimed before the Supreme British prosecutor who had issued the arrest warrant against Assange in Sweden did not have the legal authority to do so - making the transfer of the suspect to that country "unenforceable."
At the time, the defense team of Australian, 40, also suggested that the prosecutor, as an interested party in this case, lacked impartiality and independence of the legal imperative to have that act.
The decision in the UK does not exhaust the chances of Assange appeal, which can also submit your request to the European Court of Human Rights and here is accepted for evaluation, can block in British justice the execution of the arrest warrant while the case remains under consideration.
