Government is preparing legislation against acts of vandalism
The Minister of Home Affairs, Miguel Macedo, announced on Monday that the government is preparing legislation against acts of vandalism, which considered a "heavy burden" to local authorities and population.
During his speech at the ceremony commemorating the 145. Anniversary of the PSP of Oporto, Miguel Macedo said that acts of vandalism "are not only a heavy burden, for example, for local authorities but also for individuals, but, more importantly, make the urban environment a more aggressive towards people, all of them in inducing and increasing the subjective feeling of insecurity. "
"What is happening now to the level of graffiti in walls of vandalizing street furniture and other antisocial attitudes can only be given, also in law, an appropriate response.
The Government intends to briefly present a proposal on this matter, "he announced.
Asked by journalists about the measures to enshrine this proposal, the Minister of Home Affairs said that the Government is considering a project and "to see some of the legislation that exists in other countries precisely to combat such situations."
"We are preparing this legislation, I hope that the resumption of the work of the Assembly may make such a diploma. (?) Is also underway a number of amendments to criminal law and must be correct and linked with this set of laws "he replied, when asked about the date of submission.
According to Miguel Macedo in Portugal "there is a problem in this area, which incidentally has not been solved when many municipalities allocated spaces specially designed for this type of application, which some say is art - and in many cases - but this cannot be confused with the degradation of the heritage that we have seen in our cities. "
"If you talk to elected officials see that many of them complain of many tens of thousands of euros in many locations around the country are required to spend each year to replace furniture that is damaged and degraded to such acts.
I think that is good we are aware that this type of situation must be addressed and the Government will do whatever it is responsible in this area, "said the minister responsible.
