Fire On 88th Floor Of One World Trade Centre

Dozens of firefighters are called to put out a blaze high up in the new One World Trade Centre building in Manhattan.1:42pm UK, Wednesday 08 August 2012


A fire has broken out on the 88th floor of One World Trade Centre in New York.

The size of the fire is not yet clear but reports say some 24 fire engines and 84 firefighters are on the scene.

There are no reports of injuries.

Update: False Alarm at New World Trade Center Tower

After reports of a fire at 1WTC, it appears to have been a false alarm, The Associated Press and others are reporting. FDNY firefighters rushed to the building, reportedly to battle a blaze that broke out on the 88th floor of the unfinished tower at 1 World Trade Center. Details are still scarce at this point, but NBC New York reports that more that more than 90 firefighters have responded to the fire that broke out around 7:45 a.m.

CNN cites a source at the NY/NJ Port Authority saying that about 84 firefighters responded to a call at the building, but that no fire was found. The New York Fire Department is still investigating.

CBS2's sky camera captured an image that appeared to show smoke rising over Manhattan, but (despite we originally believed) that image was showing a different area of the city. Their website reports that there was a small welding fire, but that it was quickly put out.
