Case occurred in Indonesia
Pilot lands in wrong airport
A pilot was suspended after he landed the plane at an airport other than it was scheduled. The incident, which has not been explained, occurred last Saturday in Indonesia.
The company's Sriwijaya Air plane, which was carrying 96 passengers and six crew members, was landing at Minangkabau International Airport, in the Indonesian city of Padang, but ended up landing on the military base Tabing, about 12 kilometers.
The reasons for the change of destination is not yet known. "The incident is very serious and very dangerous for the safety of passengers," said spokesman Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Bambang Ervan.
The pilot, whose nationality the Indonesian authorities would not disclose, was suspended from duties. "For now, he is unable to fly and shall provide an explanation to the department of aviation safety even during the day," added the spokesman.
The company Sriwijaya was prevented from flying within the European Union, along with about 50 other Indonesian companies, for lack of security. But, in 2009, was allowed to return to fly in the airspace.
