Plane aborts takeoff already on track due to smoke in cabin

Three passengers were injured on Friday morning during an emergency stop of a plane, which was already on the runway to take off when smoke was detected in the cabin. The maneuver forced the suspension of all flights to the airport in Glasgow, Scotland.

The Boeing 737 of the low cost airline Jet2 should take off at 7:15 pm, bound for Alicante in Spain, but "made ​​an emergency stop on the runway due to the presence of smoke in the cabin, it was reported to us" said the spokesman for Glasgow Airport, told Agence France Press.

The 189 passengers aboard were evacuated followed by emergency chutes. Three of the passengers were not seriously injured, said a spokesman for the airport, without specifying whether the injury occurred during braking and landing of the airplane.

All flights to Glasgow were suspended until at least 11 am, as the evacuation was done in full track.

It sounds like the injuries were caused by a scramble to get off, but better a scrape on the runway than a disaster in the air. Thankfully, the pilot aborted take-off.
