I've just realised what it actually says on Sky about the Bounty:
http://news.sky.com/story/1004214/hms-bounty-sinks-two-crew-members-missing
HMS Bounty Sinks: Two Crew Members Missing
HMS Bounty? Sure about that, are we?
And if she has sunk, with the loss of two crew members, then the captain deserves to be court-martialled, or whatever it is they do with replica ships. Maybe hold court at DisneyWorld, or something?

Better get Nucky and the boys to sort it out....
Some live pics on Fox just now, there are suggestions that the storm is going to be even worse than feared when it hits land.

Pedro Silva wrote:a beautiful ship indeed, what I think is strange is this: lost power so easily? don´t they have batteries inside the ship or any other way to recharge the main core of the ship to avoid that problem?
Here is the story about it, Pedro. One of it's generators failed and water was flooding everywhere. Walbridge is the captain who sadly should have thought twice about what he was planning.
On Saturday, Walbridge reported that he expected to face the hurricane's brunt that night, according to the ship's Facebook page. The HMS Bounty Organisation, which ran the ship, knew its tall-ship devotees might be sceptical of the vessel's path, so it tried to reassure its 8000 Facebook followers.
"Rest assured that the Bounty is safe and in very capable hands," the Facebook page's administrator wrote. "Bounty's current voyage is a calculated decision . . . NOT AT ALL . . . irresponsible or with a lack of foresight as some have suggested. The fact of the matter is . . . A SHIP IS SAFER AT SEA THAN IN PORT!"
But on Sunday night, the hurricane was proving too much for the Bounty. The ship sent out a distress signal at 9 pm, according to the Coast Guard. Two hours later, the HMS Bounty organisation called the Coast Guard, confirming that it had lost radio contact with the vessel.

HMS Bounty Sinks: Rescued Crew Member Dies
Sky News – 28 minutes ago
A woman who was pulled from the Atlantic after abandoning ship in rough weather churned up by Hurricane Sandy has died, the US Coast Guard says.
Claudene Christian, 42, was unresponsive when she was rescued from the water on Monday evening - hours after the HMS Bounty went down in the storm off North Carolina.
Ms Christian, who lived and sailed on the ship, was hospitalised in a critical condition, and was later pronounced dead, Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class David Weydert says.
Ms Christian said on Twitter that she joined the ship's crew in May.
The Coast Guard is still searching for ship's captain, Robin Walbridge, 63.
Fourteen other crew members were rescued from the stricken ship, which was about 160 miles from the hurricane's centre.
The captain ordered his crew to abandon the ship at about 5am on Monday after the vessel had lost power and started to take on water.
The US Coast Guard said the Bounty's crew had donned cold water survival suits and life-jackets before launching in two 25-man lifeboats with canopies.
The suits are designed to protect people from the cold waters for up to 15 hours.
Rescuers faced 40mph winds and 18ft waves at the scene, which is 90 miles southeast of Hatteras in North Carolina.
The rescued crew were flown to Air Station Elizabeth City for treatment.
Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received a call from the owner of the 180ft, three-mast ship, saying she had lost communication with the vessel's crew late on Sunday evening.
It regained contact with the ship after receiving a signal from the emergency position indicating beacon registered to the Bounty.
HMS Bounty was built for the 1962 movie Mutiny On The Bounty with Marlon Brando and also appeared in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
The original Bounty was known for the mutiny that took place in Tahiti in 1789.

It's probably a good job he appears to have gone down with her, then, isn't it?
No comfort to his family, though, or those of the missing crewmen - or even the many admirers of the ship herself,

Well it appears that that ship was not safer at sea.
Dreadful situation for the families of those missing and/or dead.

My younger son lives on Martha's Vineyard, just outside Edgartown. He emailed me to say he had bundled himself and his lady up into a large RV and gone inland until things are back to normal. He works from home so he's got the laptop etc with him. LL

So did James Cagney, he was their Big Celebrity. As he's gone inland I'm not too worried, he's a very resourceful fella. LLlily wrote:How fabulous living on the Vineyard, LL. I'm sure they will be fine.

I'm watching Fox
The East Coast, New York, etc., seem to be in a terrible mess, but thankfully, only 16 fatalities so far. One is one too many, of course, but it could have been a lot worse.

I have friends in New Hampshire, emailed them, waiting on a reply. Most of the people I know are on the West Coast, or inland in the south. I see Philly got slammed, I like that city, had some great times there. LL

I know folk have lost their homes, and are facing terrible devastation - but buildings, etc., can be replaced, people can't.

Yes, Bonny, most things can be replaced.
Those pictures are amazing. I clicked on the NASA video of the Hurricane. This brings the size of the Hurricane into perspective.
