Madeleine Lookalike Sends DNA Sample To Police
The unnamed girl from New Zealand is often mistaken for Madeleine McCann who vanished from Praia da Luz in 2007.
By Jonathan Samuels, Australia correspondent
A New Zealand girl repeatedly mistaken for missing Madeleine McCann has given police a sample of her DNA which will be sent to Scotland Yard.
The girl, who has not been named, is understood to have a similar eye defect to Madeleine, prompting members of the public to believe she is the missing child.
The DNA sample is a conclusive way of proving her identity, said Detective Senior Sergeant Kallum Croudis of Dunedin Police.
"The results of this process will not be known for some time," he told New Zealand newspaper The Southland Times.
On New Year's Eve police launched a five-day investigation when a retailer became suspicious of a man and a young girl, who bore a resemblance to Madeleine.
However, they said they were "absolutely satisfied" she was not Madeleine, and it was not the first time she had been mistaken for the missing girl.
Madeleine was nearly four when she vanished from her family's Portuguese holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in 2007 as her parents dined at a nearby restaurant with friends.
Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, have never abandoned their high-profile campaign to find their eldest daughter, who would now be nine.
Sightings have also been reported in Sweden, Belgium and Australia.
It is not the first time a child has been DNA-tested in relation to the case of the missing British girl.
In 2011, a young girl spotted in India with a Belgian man and French woman was tested and was also found not to be Madeleine.

Sounds like it is nothing more than an unfortunate coincidence.

Re: Madeleine McCann investigators request DNA from Queenstown
Interesting to know this. If one of the Hounders children went missing, and a child who looked like their child was spotted, would they not want that child checked to see if it was their child??
Or would they say to the Police...no you can't do that.

Re: Madeleine McCann investigators request DNA from Queenstown
I really don't know what they're all jumping up and down and screaming about, mf - or rather, I do, that's all they live for.
I wouldn't be surprised if this child turned out to be a distant relative, given the ethnic origins of the non-Maori citizens of New Zealand.
But God forbid there should be a rational explanation, the McCann-haters don't do 'rational'.

Re: Confirmation of NZ girl's DNA
margaret Today
SY must have maddies DNA and I must fill the Mcs with terror that the Met are being so vigorous, not like those sardine munchers who they claim ignored sightings.
Wonder what SY make of the DNA from the bodily fluids in the hire car?
Nothing - because there wasn't any. I doubt if they got terribly excited about a drop of Gerry McCann's blood being on the keyfob of the car he was driving.
There was no 'body fluid', no 'DNA match', nothing.

Re: Madeleine McCann investigators request DNA from Queenstown
One of the reasons they are frothing and foaming over the NZ business is that even their tiny, hater 'brains' can work out that, if the Yard wanted to do a DNA check - why, that must mean the Yard must think there is a good chance Madeleine is still alive.
They cannot bear the thought of that, disgusting creatures that they are.
That's why they are still telling each other that the Leh 'sighting' was a hoax concocted by Team McCann.
No, it wasn't, it was a well-intentioned mistake, as the Yard knows perfectly well.
And despite all their shrieks about Free Speach, pretendypete, yoyo and their ilk want to ban the press from reporting mistaken sightings.
So, what does that say about them?

Thank goodness the press are not beholden to them.
However they do like to use them as fodder for their papers.
What was that? Oh yes, Vile Sickos.

Madeleine McCann Lookalike DNA Test Results
Madeleine McCann Lookalike DNA Test Results
A girl who has been mistaken for Madeleine McCann has undergone tests to prove whether or not she is the missing youngster.

Police have announced the results of DNA tests on a girl in New Zealand who has been mistaken for missing British youngster Madeleine McCann.
Members of the public have twice mistaken the girl for Madeleine and British police asked for testing to be carried out to confirm she was not the missing child.
The first sighting was last March and the second on New Year's Eve.
New Zealand police say in a statement that they sent the DNA samples to Scotland Yard officers who are still investigating Madeleine's disappearance.
Detective Inspector Steve McGregor said: "We have received confirmation from Scotland Yard that a DNA sample provided voluntarily from a girl mistaken as missing British girl Madeleine McCann on New Year's Eve in Queenstown last year does not provide a match for that of the missing girl.
"At the time of the sighting police made thorough inquiries and were completely satisfied that the girl was not Madeleine McCann."
New Zealand police say the unnamed girl's family has requested privacy.
Scotland Yard confirmed that following the DNA submission police were "satisfied" that the girl identified in New Zealand was not Madeleine.
Madeleine was nearly four when she disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal's Algarve on May 3, 2007 as her parents dined at a tapas restaurant with friends nearby.
Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, Leicestershire, have campaigned tirelessly for information on their daughter's whereabouts, battling for a review by the Metropolitan Police, which has now been under way for more than 18 months.
Her disappearance has sparked a number of false sightings around the world.
Portuguese police closed the case in 2008 after failing to find out what happened to her.

Thanks, Maggs.
I genuinely do not know why the McCann-haters are howling and screaming about this; the child does seem to bear a strong resemblance to Madeleine McCann, and surely it is better that this is sorted out once and for all?
Or rather, I do know - not one of them can bear the thought of Madeleine being alive.

Re: Madeleine McCann investigators request DNA from Queenstown
No genuinely caring parent would mind about this since there can never be any doubt when DNA push at six million to one shove comes into play. It will be Madeleine or it won't, and if it isn't then no harm done to anyone.
Or would they rather that no one is ever questioned, least of all the Abductor or the Child?
Silly question. They will only ever find Madeleine if it is questioned. There is no other way now.
Someone has got Madeleine. How else are they going to find her when she probably doesn't even know who she is.
This is fundamental.

Re: Madeleine McCann investigators request DNA from Queenstown
this proves that people are looking for a living, findable Madeleine McCann,
which is what truly matters, because, one of these sightings could be the one who returns her to her home.

Not entirely, Pedro, but some of us still hope, and nowadays Madeleine will only be found by DNA, and someone's suspicion.
I don't like any of the age progression pictures that have been made. Two of them are too American, and the other one isn't half pretty enough, just too common place. She was a pretty baby and she will still be a pretty girl in some measure.
But the only way in which they are going to find her now is a Suspicion and DNA. And I can't be doing with people throwing a wobbly because someone picked on the wrong child. And nor would any parent who cared about their own child.
