Ah. If that's correct, then it may be the first clue for the investigators, Lily?

(CNN) -- The pilot of the Asiana Airlines plane that crashed in San Francisco on Saturday was making his first landing with a Boeing 777 at San Francisco International Airport, the airline said.

It must be devastating for them, Lily. Bad enough to wreck a multi-million pound airplane, but to kill and injure passengers in what appears to be an avoidable accident must be a terrible thing to have on your conscience.

Whatever the flight crew did, Lily, the cabin crew worked miracles in getting everyone out in more or less one piece with such speed - they saved many, many lives.

Another US airport crash, no survivors.  LL

10 killed in Alaska air taxi fire
From Cristy Lenz, CNN
July 8, 2013 -- Updated 0850 GMT (1650 HKT)

Officials don't know why the aircraft caught fire at the Soldotna Airport in Alaska. Ten people perished in the incident.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
By the time firefighters arrive, the aircraft is fully engulfed
"There were 10 souls on the aircraft and all perished," an official says

(CNN) -- All 10 people aboard an air taxi were killed Sunday when it burst into flames at an Alaska airport, authorities said.

Officials do not know what caused the de Havilland DHC-3 Otter to catch fire at the Soldotna Airport on Sunday morning. But by the time fire fighters and medics arrived, the aircraft was fully engulfed, said Soldotna police.

"There were 10 souls on the aircraft and all perished," said Capt. Lesley Quelland with the Central Emergency Services.

The National Transportation Safety Board has been called in to investigate. It was not immediately known if the plane was taking off or landing when it caught fire.

That's awful, LL, poor souls. Crying or Very sad

I think planes really are treated like taxis in Alaska, as there's no other way to get to some places?

It's often the only way to get from A to B there and also in remote parts of Europe etc.

It is emerging re the SF crash that the two Chinese teenagers did not die in the crash but were mown down by a rescue vehicle. LL

That plane crash is really sad and I do feel for their loved ones.

Alaska, like other parts of the world,  couldn't function too well without puddle jumpers, Bonny.

How about this, annually, airlines will be needing 23,300 pilots globally with some 500,000 needed by 2031.  Shocked

Hope that they are able to get and train appropriate personnel.

Yes, apparently one of the two was suspected to have been run over by a fire truck responding to the scene. She had injuries on her indicative of that.

There was a write up about her and her best friend, who was the other girl, and they were talented, clever, popular girls. Crying or Very sad

Oh God! That is awful - I can see why people thought it had cartwheeled. You wouldn't believe ANYONE could survive that, never mind all but, sadly, two.

What on earth are those planes made of, that it could withstand a crash like that more or less in one piece?

That doesn't seem to have it going up in the air again, Lily? Looking at the amateur video, it really is a miracle it didn't come apart.

I'll happily fly in one of those, if they can survive that, they can survive just about anything....

No, it doesn't, Bonny. I think that people inside the plane may have had sensations like it was doing that and people looking from afar got it wrong. Cartwheeling? No.

No, I think witnesses must have seen it bounce up again, and from a distance, it looked as if it was cartwheeling? It did look like that on the amateur video.

Thank goodness it was caught on film, accident investigators can see exactly what happened and how it matches the recorders?

Amateur video of the evacuation. That one is going to be invaluable in training cabin crew - though this crew seem to have done a fantastic job.

It did look like that Bonny, but it was denied that it cartwheeled. It did lose its starboard engine and it is possibly when that happened that it tilted like that? It spun and slid down the runway?

I agree that it is fortunate that people recorded it all. They were supposed to be talking to the pilots today if possible.

You know, the pilot who was in the seat had only 43 hours flying a 777. I've been a passenger in 777s for more than 43 hours just this year. When I thought about it, that is not a lot of time. Shocked

I also wondered if the captain is a strict, don't question me, type of guy. I believe that that attitude is quite common in that part of the world. Maybe the pilot was afraid to question orders even?

It will all come out........

That video of the evacuation is amazing, isn't it? Look how cute the 2 Chinese girls were.... Crying or Very sad

Did you read that a flight attendant tried to deploy chutes which inflated in the cabin and trapped her. They had nothing to cut it away off her body, she was feeling choked. They had to wait until the first responders got there with box cutters.

Yes, I read about that, Lily, poor woman, she must have been terrified...That film will be invaluable, as it shows what the public actually do in an emergency, as opposed to what they're supposed to do...

It's a tragedy that anyone died on what was supposed to have been a wonderful holiday for those girls, but it really is a miracle that it wasn't 100 times worse, watching the film of the actual crash.

I am in awe of the strength of 777s, I really don't know why it didn't come apart. But thank God it didn't.
