Re: Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
A sad story, Pedro, in a day of sadness for Egypt. But I have to say, I do not blame the army for acting against the Muslim Brotherhood, the last thing the middle east needs is another state sliding into chaos.

Re: Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
I am afraid I suspect the Muslim Brotherhood were at their favourite trick, using women and children as human shields when the troops moved in.
I am not condoning the violence for one moment, but to me, giving into that mob of fanatics would have dreadful consequences later on.

Re: Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
The Muslim Brotherhood have been trying to gain control of Egypt since 1926. Until Mubarak was deposed they were far out in the wilderness. The election gave them power - and with Morsi in charge they set about trying to turn Egypt into a Sharia Islamic state, along the lines of Iran. But Egypt has always been a multi-religious country, with the Coptic Christians being allowed the same freedoms etc as the Muslims. The Brotherhood wanted that changed, the Copts sent packing and a totally hard-line Islamic state set up. That is why the army has done what it had to, stop the rot before it went too far. It is basically a power struggle between those who want a secular state, and those who would impose, stoning, amputation an beheading as punishment for the most minor of crimes. Also the Brotherhood regard Egypt's peace treaty with Israel as total anathema. If the army and the present government were to win then it would be the death knell for the Brotherhood and they know it. LL

Re: Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
I see it as not unlike Germany in 1933, LL - what a pity their army hadn't overthrown the 'elected' government!
What's going on just now isn't nice, but it would be a tragedy for the whole world if Egypt fell into the hands of these barbarians.
I hope Hague, Omaba and co keep their bien-pensant meddling to themselves.

Re: Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
I understand the US funds the Egyptian Army with billions to buy arms. I very much doubt even Al Qaeda could help the Brotherhood, in fact I understand they are not the best of pals. LL
