The taxi driver's story seems to be rattling the forkers; Claudia was even wheeled out to pour her own unique scorn on it.

You know something's up when she gets drafted in.

So, what everyone thinks they know about this matter is very probably wrong.

What the McCanns were told about this matter is almost certainly wrong.

It may well be that what the taxi driver is saying now is, in fact, correct, and the previous versions had been deliberately spun into nonsense.

For all we know, Lily, when Gonc heard what the taxi driver had to say, he was too tired and emotional to register the words, night after Madeleine disappeared.

It needs sorted out, whatever the truth is.

Words have been left out before to change statements. But at what point might this have happened? When the statement was taken, or later when it was leaked? And was it done on purpose?
