Pope convinces the woman not to abort and offers to be godfather

Pope Francisco phoned a pregnant woman and adviced her not to abort and offered to be the godfather of the child.

Anna Romano, an Italian woman of 35 years old, pregnant in the middle of last June. Shortly after realizing that she was pregnant, she began to be pressed by the decision of her lover, a married man, who made it clear he had no intentions of helping to raise the child and that the best solution would be to abort.

Desperate, Anna decided to write a letter in July to unburden and tell the story to the Pope Francisco. This past Tuesday was stunned to answer the phone and hear the voice of the Pope: "Hello Anna, I'm the Pope Francisco."

"I heard him speak," said Anna Romano to the Italian newspaper "Il Messaggero". "She had read my letter. Assured me that the baby is a gift from God, a sign of providence," he added. The woman, a resident of Arezzo, was vacationing in Gallipoli and had just returned from the beach when the phone rang.

During the telephone conversation which lasted for a few minutes, the Pope Francisco helped Anna to make a decision: to carry on with pregnancy. "He filled my heart with joy when he said I was brave and strong for my son," said Anna.

Annais single and divorced, Anna also expressed her fear that the child could not be baptized. In response, the Pope assured that not only he could baptize the child, but also be available to be godfather. "I am convinced that you will not have trouble finding a spiritual father, but if you can not, I'm always available," said the Pope.

If the child is a boy, Anna Romano has already decided that will call him Francisco.
