The youngster had been performing with the Poppy Girls, a choir made up of the daughters of Servicemen

The reunion was one of the highlights of the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall.
Host Huw Edwards had told Megan he had a special guest for her – and as Lieut Cmdr Adams walked down the steps, she burst into tears and shouted, ‘Daddy!’ before running towards him.

Wow. Can you imagine how he must have felt being told his mom insisted he go home?

I am astounded that he managed to survive at the front line of the Somme unscathed for weeks, Lily - someone Upstairs must have been looking after him.

It's the kind of story that must give today's Helicopter Mothers the vapours. Not, I hasten to add, that I would recommend trench warfare as being good for the X-boxers!

Definitely someone watching over him, Bonny. That was hardly a playground was it? My grandfather was at the Somme but he was 18. He told of such atrocities.......

His mother must have cried her eyes out seeing him again in one piece.....
