Frankly, with the disgusting scandals currently whirling around Westminster, having sex with a consenting, adult member of the opposite sex is liable to be seen as a GOOD thing by voters.

Mr Menzies denies the allegations.

He issued a statement on Saturday night, saying: "I have decided to resign as a PPS after a series of allegations were made against me in a Sunday newspaper.

"A number of these allegations are not true and I look forward to setting the record straight in due course."

Menzies has been a member of parliament for Fylde in Lancashire since 2010. His resignation was said to have stunned PM David Cameron last night.

It seems to involve drugs, illegal immigrants, and just who was paying for the renting, Sabot.

A top Tory MP resigned as a Ministerial aide tonight after a Sunday Mirror investigation into claims he paid a teenage rent boy for sex and drugs.

Mark Menzies, 42, quit his post as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) over allegations made by a Brazilian male escort.

Rogerio Santos claimed Mr Menzies, 42, paid for his services 18 months ago, before showing him around Parliament.

The 19-year-old then claims the MP asked him to supply him with illegal methedrone.

His allegations led to Mr Menzies dramatically quitting last night as a Parliamentary Private Secretary with the Department for International Development.

He said: "I have decided to resign as a PPS after a series of allegations were made against me in a Sunday newspaper."

We were contacted by Santos in a series of emails last week in which he openly admitted being a rent boy.

He told us: "I have been having sex with a Conservative MP for money.

"Mark also asked me to buy methedrone.

"I have personal messages of him talking to me about drugs."

Santos claimed he overstayed his student visa, was in the country illegally and made other claims about Mr Menzies – although it is understood the MP was unaware of Santos's immigration status.

The unmarried MP, who was parliamentary private secretary to International Development Minister Alan Duncan until 7pm tonight, has repeatedly asked Commons questions about the Government's work on rehabilitation for drugs offenders.

But texts on Santos' phone, which he showed to the Sunday Mirror, reveal messages asking the teenager for full details about the quality of methedrone available and how much it would cost.

Methedrone was banned in the UK in 2010 and is a Class B drug dubbed "poor man's cocaine".

Street slang often confuses methedrone with mephedrone – another illegal amphetamine-based drug.

A series of messages seen by the Sunday Mirror show the 42-year-old MP asking for the price of the drug .

Santos, who lives in a squalid apartment block in Sao Paulo, told how he was taken around Parliament by Mr Menzies – although there is no suggestion that Mr Menzies broke any rules in taking him to Westminster Palace.

A growing number of backbenchers, of increasing seniority, are going on the record to condemn her. As criticism from the Tory benches intensified, Mary Macleod, Miller's parliamentary private secretary, sent a text message to backbench colleagues saying she believed there was a "witch-hunt on Maria due to Leveson" and added: "Maria would really appreciate your support."

Macleod then toured the television studios to defend her boss, but appeared to stoke the row further by suggesting that the public did not really understand the facts of the case and the media had a "hidden agenda".

Speaking on Sky News and later the BBC, Macleod insisted Miller had been cleared of all accusations and said the reason newspapers were pursuing the issue so vigorously was "Leveson and probably equal marriage as well".

She said: "Why do you think, when allegations are being dismissed, they are continuing this story every day? Why would they continue unless there was a hidden agenda – and it's not just me saying this, there's a lot of MPs saying this. Maria has a lot of support and I think she's a brilliant culture secretary. I think that the media role behind this is about Leveson … They are not treating her fairly."

Sources close to Miller distanced her from her aide's intervention, saying it was not made at Miller's bidding and that Macleod hadacted as an "independent" MP with views of her own.. No 10 also declined to say whether the prime minister thought there was a link to the Leveson proposals to reform the press, but a source said Cameron still fully backed Miller.

Apart from omnishambles one other thing I would like to say. I have a lot of friends who live in Scotland and were going to vote no. This has changed minds now most of them are voting yes. They now want away from Westminster almost at any cost. This is hands down the best thing that has happened to the yes campaign. Well done miller well done.

A member of a government which seeks to reduce benefits and support for the weakest members of society can expect no mercy when demonstrating barefaced greed herself.
She should summon whatever self respect she can muster and resign.
This is a battle she cannot be allowed to win.

They just don't get it, do they? This has nothing either to do with gay marriage or Leveson. It has everything to do with benefits fraud and double standards. The unreality of Miller's incapacity to understand that there isn't one law and for the rest of us is eolquent un her unfitness for any high office.

.....you get the picture. I actually cannot remember there EVER being such a corrupt, unprincipled 'government' in Westminster as this parcel of rogues.
