Comedian David Walliams' hero status has been further cemented after he helped a pet Labrador while continuing his brave attempt to swim the length of the Thames.
The Little Britain star has battled chilly temperatures and an attack of "Thames tummy" so far in his formidable challenge to cover 140 miles in eight days.
With wife Lara Stone travelling in the support boat, he was spurred on in the latest leg of his incredible feat and today passed the 100 mile mark.
He has been cheered on by fans and celebrity pals throughout the journey. A beaming Walliams, 40, was greeted by fellow comic Miranda Hart on Saturday, who made him a messy bowl of porridge for breakfast.
The dog drama came as the TV star swam towards Cookham Lock in Berkshire, where Vinny the one-year-old Labrador was struggling to get out of the water due to a bad hip.
Walliams said: "I heard a splash and looked over to be met with the face of a sweet Labrador.
"I thought he was fine, but he started to really struggle when he was getting out so I swam over and helped his owner get him out."
The animal's owner Steve Outten, 23, from High Wycombe, said: "Vinny has hip dysplasia and was really struggling to get out just as David was swimming past. He stopped, swam over and helped me get him out, which when you think what he's going through with the swim is totally amazing, what a man."
Despite concerns that the enormous task could be too much for Walliams, he said Saturday was a "great day" and that having wife Lara in the boat was "such a big boost".
So far he has raised more than £500,000 and BT is giving £40,000 a day to the fund.

That is a stunning amount of money to raise to help the world's poorest people:

Walliams Nears End Of Epic Charity Swim
0Comments
5:04pm UK, Monday September 12, 2011
David Walliams is close to completing his epic 140-mile charity swim in the Thames after battling diarrhoea and vomiting.

The comedy star, who suffered from "Thames tummy" during the journey, is aiming to complete the length of the river in eight days.
Walliams is only a few miles away from reaching his destination - Westminster in central London.
But in the final stretch, he will probably face the toughest conditions yet with a difficult current and increased amounts of river traffic.
The Little Britain star, who has already raised more than £900,000 for Sport Relief, made an early start on the final day in order to beat the tide.
He is due to finish the challenge - which began in Lechlade in Gloucestershire - at around 6pm.

The challenge has taken him from Gloucestershire to London
Walliams had inoculations and was given a precautionary course of antibiotics in order to brave the Thames.
Part of the river has had 500,000 cubic metres of sewage poured into it in the past week.
As well as suffering aches and pains, Walliams has also struggled with a painful rash where his wetsuit has rubbed his neck.
He had initially planned to do the journey in trunks, but the cold water conditions meant he needed further protection.

Thousands of cheering fans greeted him on Sunday night as he made it to Teddington Lock after a 21-mile stint - his longest day so far.
He has been supported by wife Lara Stone, who travelled in a support boat, and was met along the way by celebrity friends including comics Jimmy Carr, Miranda Hart and Rob Brydon.
Walliams' mother, Kathleen, said: "I feel people think they're part of this because they can actually see him doing it.
"He's the, sort of, nation's sweetheart because he's doing this - rescuing dogs along the way and waving to people when all he wants to do is lay down almost. I'm very, very proud of him."
Supporters can sponsor the performer at www.sportrelief.com/walliams

What a fantastic acheivement - I personally wouldn't swim in the Thames for love nor money.

That is awesome. What a guy! (Wild applause)

Ingesting any of that sewage could potentially kill him so I guess Thames Tummy is the least of it.......
