Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
http://news.sky.com/story/1282730/many-dead-and-hurt-in-baghdad-bombing
A bombing in central Baghdad has killed at least nine people and injured 23, according to security and medical officials.
According to an interior ministry official the attack was a roadside bomb, while a police colonel said that was then followed by a suicide bombing.
Police said the suicide blast was carried out by an attacker wearing an explosive vest near Tahrir Square in the centre of the Iraqi capital.
An eyewitness told AP the explosion happened outside a shop selling military fatigues.
Medical staff were seen waiting near stretchers on the pavement in front of one hospital in Baghdad, on which casualties were placed and taken inside, an AFP journalist at the scene said.
The street was closed to all traffic except ambulances.
The government is currently battling a Sunni militant-led insurgency that threatens to split the country along ethnic lines.
Fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria have seized many towns and cities north of Baghdad, although the militants' advance has seemed to slow in recent days, with government forces retaking some areas.

Only days after fall of Mosul, Iraqis return to find lower prices, restored services and more
Interesting report; if the madmen can be held in check, it does suggest that it's Saddam's troops that are running things?
Time will tell if this is a genuine attempt to restore order, or just a stunt.

Another Twitter picture shows ISIS militants removing part of the soil barrier on the Iraq-Syria borders and moving through it as they consolidate the mini-state they have carved out between the neighbouring countries

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/06/16/us-weighs-alliance-with-iran-to-counter-isis-boosts-presence-in-gulf/
The Obama administration reportedly is preparing to open direct talks with Iran on possibly cooperating to counter the Sunni militant force seizing large swaths of Iraq and threatening Baghdad, weighing an unlikely alliance in the face of a common foe.
Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday the administration was "open to discussions" with Tehran if they can help end the violence. He told Yahoo! News he would "not rule out anything that would be constructive."
The deliberations come as the U.S. moved more assets into the region in preparation for a possible mass evacuation of Americans. According to U.S. Navy officials, the USS Mesa Verde is moving into the Persian Gulf with about 500 Marines on board, to help in the event of an evacuation.
It is the fourth U.S. Naval vessel to move into the Gulf. The ship will join the USS George HW Bush, along with the USS Philippines Sea, a cruiser, and the USS Truxton, a destroyer. Pentagon Press Secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said the ships provide "the commander-in-chief additional options to protect American citizens and interests in Iraq, should he choose to use them."
In addition, a senior U.S. military official confirmed to Fox News that the U.S. is sending nearly 100 troops to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad to provide additional security. The embassy remains open, but the State Department already has started to "temporarily" send some embassy staff to other consulate locations in Iraq.
If Kerry's involved, then things are bound to go to Hell in a handcart.
Why not just let the US military speak with the Iran military? They are far more likely to have mutual respect - and to know what they're talking about.

President Obama also gave the University of California-Irvine commencement address during his trip to California. Here is screaming the student chant 'Zot, Zot, Zot,' as he makes the symbols of the Anteater, the school's mascot
Anteater? As far as the conspiraloons will be concerned, he's just conjured up Satan with those handsigns......
No wonder the baby looks scared - she speaks for all of us. Actually, I think I prefer Obama golfing and making the sign of the Horned God to Obama presidenting.....

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
From Fox:
Meanwhile, the U.S. is positioning Naval vessels in the Persian Gulf to assist in the event of an evacuation. Americans already are being moved out of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad -- according to a senior U.S. official, about 1,000 U.S. Embassy personnel are slated to be moved to other U.S. consulates in Iraq, as well as to Jordan. That represents one-fifth of the 5,000 personnel at the compound, the largest American embassy in the world. The embassy remains open.
Can Obama survive Last Helicopter Out of Saigon II? Baghdad is a long way from the sea, and if it's surrounded any US citizens are in trouble.
Especially as Obama so kindly supplied the 'nice rebels' with MANPADS, etc.
And if I was Iran, I wouldn't trust Kerry and co as far as I could throw them.
I see Kerry's talking about using drones. This guarantees that a convoy of refugees, or Iranian troops, are going to be hit for being 'too close together' or something.

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/06/16/state-department-warned-iran-was-aiding-iraq-militias-now-weighs-possible/
The Iranian government, which the White House is now looking to as a possible partner to help counter the insurgency threatening to split Iraq, was cited just months ago by the Obama administration's own State Department as a prime instigator in that country.
Counterterrorism officials warned about Iran's meddling in Iraq as part of its report on state sponsors of terrorism.
"Despite its pledge to support Iraq's stabilization, Iran trained, funded, and provided guidance to Iraqi Shia militant groups," the report said.
The warning underscores the challenging -- and outright confusing -- situation the Obama administration finds itself in as it considers whether to align with Iran in order to save Iraq from Sunni militants.
Further complicating the situation, senior U.S. Defense officials confirmed to Fox News that Syrian war planes struck two separate convoys belonging to the insurgent Islamic State of Iraq and Syria on Saturday.
Way to go, Obama, fall out with your only possible ally.
And the rest of the world knows perfectly well that it's Obama's chums in KSA that have been bankrolling ISIS. As well as the US supplying the 'nice rebels' with state-of-the-art weapons.
Here's a suggestion, Obama. Pull your troops out of EVERYWHERE, stop meddling with nations thousands of miles from the US, park the Navy at either side of the US, sort out the mess in American AND CLOSE THAT BORDER BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
From:
http://edition.cnn.com/2014/06/17/world/meast/iraq-crisis/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Baghdad (CNN) -- As the Islamic militants continue their murderous advance in Iraq, the Pentagon is moving more firepower and manpower into the region to prepare for whatever U.S. President Barack Obama orders.
Already at the U.S. Embassy, dozens of Marines and Army troops have moved in to beef up security.
The aircraft carrier George HW Bush and five other warships are now in the Persian Gulf. More than 500 Marines and dozens of helicopters are on standby.
Obama to send 275 U.S. troops to Iraq Kurdish fighters hold back ISIS ISIS photos seem to show mass execution ISIS moves closer to Baghdad

General: Don't make deal with the devil Obama criticized over handling of Iraq Hollywood-type videos show ISIS killings Meet the terrorists who scare al Qaeda Where does ISIS get its money? Who's to blame for Iraq chaos? 3 Reasons not to trust Iran
A top priority: evacuate all Americans at the embassy if it comes to that.
On Monday, Secretary of State John Kerry, in an interview with Yahoo! News, acknowledged airstrikes on Iraqi targets are under consideration.
"Well, they are not the whole answer but they may well be one of the options that are important to be able to stem the tide and stop the movement of people who are moving around in open convoys and trucks and terrorizing people," he said. "When you have people murdering, assassinating in these mass massacres, you have to stop that and you do what you need to do."
=========
Look, fools, just get your people out before it's too late, and your helicopters are falling out of the sky thanks to those MANPADS you gave to the 'nice rebels'.
I confidently predict that Kerry/Obama are going to allow bombing, it's going to be a total f*ck-up and they will bomb columns of refugees and government troops, plus hospitals and very probably the Chinese embassy - they always do.
The civil war will then stop briefly while all the warring factions turn on every American they can get their hands on, and Last Helicopter II turns into a bloodbath thanks to those MANPADS.
One bright note - both Fox and CNN have made a point of referring to US allies, Saudi Arabia, bankrolling ISIS. Let's hope they keep it up, instead of blaming Russia/China/Iran for everything.

US-made Stinger missiles have likely fallen into ISIS hands, officials say
Published June 16, 2014FoxNews.comFacebook996 Twitter537 livefyre172
U.S. officials with access to the latest U.S. intelligence on Iraq told Fox News it "appears likely/probable" that U.S.-made Stinger missiles have fallen into the hands of Sunni insurgents.
It is possible that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) fighters acquired them from army bases they have taken over in recent days, the sources said.
The Stinger missile is a shoulder-fired surface-to-air weapon that is used against aircraft.
As ISIS forces have advanced through Iraq, concerns have increased that more U.S.-made weaponry could fall into the hands of the radical group.
Iraqi intelligence officials said ISIS fighters managed to take control of two big weapons depots late last week holding some 400,000 items, including AK-47 rifles, rockets and rocket-propelled grenades, artillery shells and mortars. A quarter of the stockpiles were quickly sent to Syria in order to help the group's comrades there, they said.
Also last week, according to a report from the West Point Combating Terrorism Center, the ISIS "now possesses scores of Iraqi military equipment originally provided by the United States, from Humvees and cargo vehicles to small arms.

I don't know what to say, Lily. This entire disaster has been entirely predictable since Obama and co decided to arm and train ISIS, sorry, I mean the 'nice rebels' in Syria.
And I'm reading in the US media that at least some of this disaster leads back to missing Stingers, Libya and dead ambassadors.
WTF did they give Iraq Stingers for in the first place? Al Quaeda doesn't have an air force - or rather, didn't. I'm sure they've found someone to fly those Blackhawks by now.

Re: Al Quaeda splinter group sweeping through Iraq
Oh my, this is new!
Iraq Accuses Saudi Arabia Of Promoting 'Genocide'
Baghdad says its neighbour's "financial and moral" support of Sunni militants has caused "the spilling of Iraqi blood
Iraq's Shia leaders have accused neighbours Saudi Arabia of promoting "genocide" by backing Sunni militants, as Baghdad battles insurgents who have seized swathes of territory.
Defying calls from the West to reach out and defuse the crisis, a government statement said: "We hold them responsible for supporting these groups financially and morally, and for the outcome of that - which includes crimes that may qualify as genocide: the spilling of Iraqi blood, the destruction of Iraqi state institutions and historic and religious sites."
Riyadh denies backing fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and said on Monday that sectarianism in Iraq was fuelling the violence.
More at:
http://news.sky.com/story/1283751/iraq-accuses-saudi-arabia-of-promoting-genocide
I'm glad it's now being said openly - that might be enough to disrupt Obama's golf. Not that I expect him to do much about it.
The country with just about the world's worst human rights record after North Korea? That publically flogs and executes women? That persecutes gays and other minorities?
Yet Obama never says a word of criticism, instead bows like a supplicant to their king. Go figure.
