Video Captures Dramatic Runway Near-Miss
The moment when two planes come within seconds of a potential disaster on an airport runway is caught on video.
Amateur video has captured the moment a pilot was forced to abort a landing to avoid hitting another plane crossing the runway in front of him.
The footage, filmed by an aviation enthusiast on Saturday, shows a passenger plane taxi across a runway at Barcelona's El Prat Airport on which a Russian jet is about to land.
The pilot immediately decided to abort the landing and pulled up the nose.
The UTair Boeing 767-300 plane then flew on, circling several times before landing on the same runway a few minutes later.
It was not clear whether the taxiing airbus was cleared to cross the runway.
Sky's Technology Correspondent Tom Cheshire said Spain's Airports and Air Navigation (AENA) - which manages Spain's airports - has said the incident was nothing to worry about and within the margin of error.
An investigation has been ordered into what led to the incident.
If that's 'within the margin of error' I hate to think what something really dangerous looks like...
If the pilot of the Russian jet hadn't had his wits about him, there would now be dead bodies and smouldering aluminium all over the runway.

And here's a thing you don't see very often....
It's OK, there hasn't been some kind of mass drowning of planes - they fell off a train in Montana:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Rescue workers in Montana are facing an unusual conundrum: how to remove three airplane fuselages from a steep riverbank. The task is already proving difficult, due to the remote location and trying to get such large objects up a steep bank.
A crew of 50 are working alongside eight heavy equipment machines, to try and salvage the three green painted fuselages, which fell into the Clark Fork River, not far from Rivulet, Montana. Two are partly submerged in the water, while one is resting on the riverbank. With the Boeing 737-800 model being around 40 meters in length, salvaging them from their current predicament is likely to prove a tough task.
Or......

never seen Boeings in the wild before!! way cool

Teri Lee · Works at Marysville School District
And look how they so gracefully graze on the natural vegetation. ...so stunning, so majestic.

The question is: will fishermen embrace the larger, tougher "aluminum-head" , or will the EPA label it an invasive species,,?

Re: Don't look at this if you're about to fly...
Frost tells MTN News a total of 19 cars derailed; seven cars with aircraft components, three cars carrying soybeans, three cars with denatured alcohol and the other seven were empty.
Frost says three aircraft components landed in the Clark Fork River. Frost says no alcohol or soybeans leaked.
So, the soybeans and alcohol were more securely-loaded than the Boeings? Someone had interesting priorities.
