Readers’ online commentary targeted in McCann libel suit

My friends, this was taken from Portugal Resident newspaper:

I've checked the IBT, and it does indeed say that:

Also cited by the McCanns in their complaint were comments posted by readers below the online version of the article, which was pulled down by News UK just under two weeks after publication.

I can't comment on that; the Sunday Times is behind a paywall and I am not a subscriber. But if that is the case, then the haters and vigilantes must have signed up to the Times to post their usual foul abuse.

Press Gazette:

In addition to the article, which was published on 27 October and remained online until 8 November, the McCanns also made reference to readers' comments left on the article - in High Court papers seen by Press Gazette.

I confess, I didn't notice that in the Gazette story.

So, they signed up to the Times to spew bile? If the Times registration is anything like the other NI offering, The Sun, then they want to know everything bar your granny's blood group to register....If the Times did indeed leave the usual obscene abuse from haters online, then they are in a lot of trouble.

This could get interesting.

The Times is in bother too, IMO, for not removing their muck from comments.

That is what I also thought.  The haters can blame themselves when their so called 'free speech' is cracked down on as comments to online papers.
