Re: America goes to the polls
I don't know any more, Lily - this thing with Venezuela is ridiculous. The government there is pretty incompetent anyway, but by Obama deciding they are a danger to America, somehow, all they are acheiving is getting Venezuelans rallying behind their incompetent government.
Inventing an outside enemy is an old trick; an outside enemy presenting itself on a plate is a new one on me....

I stand to be corrected by Lily - and anyone else that understands it - but I think Obama can bypass that by calling a war a 'military/humanitarian action' and using his role as Commander in Chief to simply issue orders?
Bonny, you are correct there. He could for a short amount of time act unilaterally but sooner or later he would need the funding. Congress would have to approve it.
However, we can figure out that if the war got well....heavy, then Congress would have to vote.
He does appear to be so manipulative.......could you trust him?

No, it doesn't, Lily. Some of the more bizarre ideologies of Venezuelan presidents haven't helped, either - last I read, they'd managed to run out of loo roll in the shops.
So, why on earth announce Venezuela is a national security threat? It makes NO sense - though Soros is bound to be involved somewhere....

Re: America goes to the polls
On the subject of this bizarreness:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-10/venezuelas-maduro-mocks-obama-grants-himself-special-powers-defend-against-imperiali
ending, with irony:
Just like that with the stroke of a pen, Obama succeeds in cementing the public opinion against the US of yet another nation. And perhaps just to show where Latin America's socialist allegiance really lies, despite Obama's "shift in policies" moments ago we saw this: CUBA SAYS `UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT' FOR VENEZUELA AGAINST US: AFP.
Well, as long as Putin is the one who is isolated...
That must be it, Lily, Obama wants to isolate the US from the entire globe....

Re: America goes to the polls
http://www.commondreams.org/news/2015/03/09/us-declares-venezuela-extraordinary-threat-national-security
Justifying its mandate, the executive order cites alleged "erosion of human rights guarantees, persecution of political opponents, curtailment of press freedoms, use of violence and human rights violations and abuses in response to anti-government protests, and arbitrary arrest and detention of anti-government protestors, as well as the exacerbating presence of significant public corruption."
Venezuela is a 'communistic leaning' state and we know what effect that can have on some rednecks in the US. LLThe U.S. has long been involved in attempts to destabilize Venezuela’s socialist government. Its role in the 2002 coup against Hugo Chavez is well-documented. Over the years, many organizations, including ones in which right-wing opposition figures are involved, have received funding from the likes of USAID and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), both U.S.-based agencies notorious for fomenting unrest in countries hostile to U.S. interests. For example, Machado headed an organization named Sumate that has received funding from the NED.
U.S. officials have also made no secret about their hostility to Venezuela. Last year the Obama administration imposed sanctions on a number of Venezuelan officials it claims are implicated in human rights abuses and corruption, although it is keeping the list of names secret. In President Obama's 2015 National Security Strategy, he announced that the U.S. would "stand by the citizens of countries where the full exercise of democracy is at risk, such as Venezuela."
Despite this documentation of American animosity toward Venezuela, media outlets continue to harbor an inexplicable blind spot on the U.S. role.

Re: America goes to the polls
I think that is just the excuse, LL, Venezuela's economy was a shambles without any outside help - and most of South America now seems to be screaming about US interference.
No sane person thinks that Venezuela is any threat to the US - do they?
This is funny:
. In President Obama's 2015 National Security Strategy, he announced that the U.S. would "stand by the citizens of countries where the full exercise of democracy is at risk, such as Venezuela."
So, when's he going to invade Saudi Arabia, then?

Re: America goes to the polls
He's just the site host. He carries loads of nonsense. It's the message from the South American politicians saying things like:
At an event celebrating the new book, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño said, “These secret policies continue in Latin America today. Nothing that Philip Agee denounced as CIA actions in the past have been discarded by the espionage seen in the present.”
That counts, surely?

Re: America goes to the polls
And that, LL, is why I do my best to track things down to their source, whether it's the McCann case, Ukraine, US politics or anything else.
To find out who actually said what, and why, whether or not what they are saying is backed up by other sources.
I absolutely hate being lied to, and Western politicians, and much of the Western media, are doing an awful lot of lying just now.

Probably wise, LL. You have far more chance of success with your endeavours than getting to the bottom of exactly why Hilary had her very own server - not addie, server, separate from the proper US government ones - or why she has printed out tens of thousands of emails instead of just forwarding the originals to investigators....

Re: America goes to the polls
Oh, she had the server in her house......
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/hillary-clinton/11450734/Hillary-Clinton-ran-State-Department-email-operations-from-private-internet-server-at-home.html
Hillary Clinton ran State Department email operations from private internet server at home
The Democratic presidential front-runner is facing fresh secrecy questions about her unusual email habits as secretary of state after revelation that all her messages were sent via a private server registered at her New York home
But the Associated Press has now established that the computer server that transmitted and received those emails was operated from an Internet service registered at the home she shares with her husband Bill Clinton in Chappaqua, north of New York city.
That unconventional set up – rather than using agency servers, as most government employees do, or outside Internet providers such as Google – would have given the Clinton camp unprecedented control over her archive of email messages. If emails were deleted, they would be lost forever – as opposed to messages transmitted on government servers that could be recovered even if deleted from a user's in-box.
As the controversy deepened, the Washington Post reported that a Republican-led investigative committee in the House of Representatives will subpoena her personal emails regarding the 2012 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that claimed the lives of four Americans.
Awesome crookery.

Re: America goes to the polls
I liked this bit - quote from Fox:
Explaining her original decision, Clinton told reporters she "opted for convenience" to use her personal email, on one device, when she became secretary of state. She said she thought it "would be simpler" to do so.
"Obviously it hasn't worked out this way," Clinton said. She admitted it would have been better to use "two separate phones and two email accounts."
Poor old thing! No-one told her she could have more than one email addie on the same device!
And haven't we all wished we could have our own private server in the basement?

The bad thing, reading round, is that just about every nation on earth is furious with Washington.
The good thing, reading round, is that just about every American with an IQ greater than their shoe size is also furious with Washington.

It's insane that Hilary was even considered in the first place, so I hope this little lot brings her down. I saw an American poster describe her as Richard Nixon without the charm -which is insulting Nixon.
I genuinely don't know how the sane people still left in Washington stand it, Lily. Every single day there seems to be some new scandal, some new act of madness, some new slap in the face to ordinary, hard-working Americans.

I don't know how they do either, Bonny. This lot seem to be the worst of the worst. We and the world needs trustworthy people for a change like Ron and Rand Paul. It would be a far better place for us all.

Re: America goes to the polls
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/03/11/maryland-naacp-tries-to-block-two-public-schools-for-immigrants-calls-it/
WASHINGTON – A plan that would dedicate two public high schools in suburban Washington to immigrants and second-generation students struggling with English is pitting black and Hispanic communities -– usually allies -- against one another.
The Prince George’s County, Md., chapter of the NAACP is strongly opposing the plan -- which would take effect next school year, and cover about 800 students having English language difficulties -- claiming it will pull resources from other students and unfairly redistribute them to Hispanic students. Some critics go so far as to compare the plan to segregation.
“It’s a slap in the face,” Bob Ross, president of the Prince George’s County branch of the NAACP, told FoxNews.com.
Ross believes the proposal to open two new schools violates the landmark 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision that ruled separate schools for black and white students violated the Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
“It risks turning Prince George’s County into a segregated school system,” Ross said, adding that he realizes the need for better education in the county but believes it should not come at the cost of existing students.
More at link.
Is it finally dawning on Black Americans that Obama has thrown them under the bus? And it's a fair bet that the Hispanic students will NOT be continually wrecking classes, but instead will be desperate to learn and get ahead.
