THIS IS SO WEIRD

On my recent visit to Vienna, I saw what was one of the strangest bikes I have ever seen.  I didn't have my camera with me so I searched the net and found a picture of an identical one.   LL    

What is it, LL? Why is it?

I have no idea, but I was driving down the Ringstraße and that suddenly appeared from a side road with a young man perched on top. I almost stalled!! I spent the next ten minutes or so giggling hysterically!! LL

You've actually seen someone riding one?

It can't be very stable, it's like a penny farthing with two wheels.

He looked quite stable, actually, it was me who was in shock. I mentione it later to my cousin who said quite a few of the 'younger' people can be seen riding them. LL

I would love to know what the point of them is, LL, I can't see it, personally.

See above the traffic maybe? I don't either, my cousin said it's just one of those fads that seem to surface every so often. Probably the rider was a Vienna University student. When I was there, in my far distant youth, we were just as daft!! LL

Yes, there may actually be no explanation. I tried Google, and it came up with words like 'crazy' and 'creavite' attached.....

While out grabbing coffee this afternoon I spotted this crazy double-sized DIY bicycle. It’s made with two separate bike frames welded together and joined in front by a metal bar. The pedals actually work, but I can’t imagine why anyone would want to ride this thing– it seems like a horribly unsafe way to get around. Maybe it gives you a birds-eye-view of the surrounding traffic. Read on to see more pics of the double-sized bike.

I googled Unusual Bikes and got a load of pics with that one included. LL

I think the strange bikes on google do rather prove that it's pointless trying to reinvent the wheel....there's a reason for bikes being a pretty standard shape?

I haven't ridden one since I was a teenager, being so tall meant having knees under chin however how high I extended the seat upwards. Whe I used to attend a gym I always found the exercise bikes there uncomfortable. There have been attempts to make changes, as I recall, but the standard shape has never been improved. LL

Do you need a trampoline to get onto the seat?
