Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
It's most peculiar, Lily, it doesn't seem to affect the ones right at the top, but one or two rungs below.

Really interesting story. Don't know, Bonny, but would think that there would be more than one?

There is bound to be, IMO, Lily. I confess, I struggle to grasp the full scale of this HSBC scandal, its tentacles seem to be everywhere.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
http://news.sky.com/story/1430438/uk-warning-as-germany-rejects-greek-loan-plan
The continuing stand-off between the eurozone and Greece over its debt could lead to a "full blown crisis", George Osborne has warned.
The Chancellor made his comments as eurozone finance ministers prepare for crunch talks this afternoon on whether to extend the EU loan programme to Greece.
The discussions - which have been delayed by an hour - will centre on Athens' bid for more cash over six months but without strict austerity conditions attached.
Negotiations have been continuing behind the scenes in advance of the meeting in Brussels today, which the eurogroup had set as a deadline for a deal.
A member of the Greek team, Elena Panaritis, told Sky News it was clear the country's creditors wanted Greece to bleed and politics had got in the way of economics.
Oh, shut up, Osborne. The people that have had 'austerity' inflicted on them by the shower of crooked troughers that caused the whole problem have had enough.
The actual Greek people got some 8% of this 'debt'; the rest is zeros on computer screens being switched between crooked banks, crooked hedge funds and crooked politicians. And Soros.
I hope Greece tells Germany to GTF and joins the Eurasian Union.

Let's see, which other countries are bankrupt? Wiki:
Total (gross) government debt as a percent of GDP by IMF
Oh my, they do appear to be - us.

They do indeed. Look at the countries not burdened in such a way.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
Later, Paul said the Federal Reserve would end and the states would stop listening to federal laws they didn’t agree with.
I hope he's right, it would stop an awful lot of the craziness. IMO, Washington has turned into a monster - so why not a proper Federation? Most of your States seem to be big enough to run their own affairs, and the nearer government is to the voters, the better - less opportunity for this massive corruption, for starters.
It's always a pleasure to read Ron Paul.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
I hope he is too. Patriotism has been a dirty word to many but what is wrong with that?
People need to have more say in their own lives and for big government to butt out, while obeying just laws.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
The natural patriotism of many good Americans has, IMO, been twisted out of all recognition by the psychopaths in Washington, Lily. If the American people ever wake up to what their government has really been doing in their names, it's liable to end the same way as it does everywhere else when people just won't take any more.

Love and harmony prevails in our happy EU:

I thought Germans were smart? Haven't they grasped that any bailout will NOT go to the long-suffering Greek people. Nein! It will be washed through assorted banks, dodgy bonds and even dodgier hedge funds, before returning with the click of a computer mouse to Germany, to bail out Deutsche Bank.

well done Greek minister for defending Greece´s interests, which, for me, that was a victory of Greece.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
I wish the other countries, like your own Portugal, that have had austerity forced on the public, would kick up Hell too, Pedro. It's horrifying when you read up on it properly, and see where all these 'loans' have actually gone, and that ordinary people have benefited from less than one tenth of them.
The rest is all sloshing around in dodgy banks, being handled by the usual international crooks.

bb1, I agree with you, but, the truth is: the PT minister preferred to bow to the directives of German politicians, instead of having the courage to act like the Greek minister acted.

But I think that's good news for Sabot?

The pound to euro exchange rate (GBPEUR) is at 1.3898.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-13/europe-has-modest-proposal-greece-dont-pay-wages-one-or-two-months
So to summarize, once again, the peculiar debt payment dynamics in Greece: first the "anti-austerity", "ultra-leftist" government is about to use what little Greek pensions are left, and now - if the Troika has its way - will stop paying government salaries for a month or so, so that Greece can find enough funds to pay the IMF, which then can promptly use the same funds to pay the US muppet government in Kiev which is just as broke as Greece, and needs to pay Gazprom yesterday to keep gas deliveries coming, with Gazprom promptly remitting the funds into Putin's personal money vault.
Rinse repeat.
Meanwhile, Greece, where apathy just hit unseen levels, will end up so poor it can't even afford to conduct the next elections in which, as many have warned, none other than the neo-nazi party may finally take power
Don't ask me, the world's gone mad.
On the plus side, the euro seems to be continuing its downward plunge, so at least Sabot will benefit.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
They would be better off to bite the bullet now and get out of the Euro? It will be painful for a short while but what they have been told is theirs now, is not worse, surely?
They can then start to rebuild under their own steam.

Re: Political, financial turmoil in Greece
Agree, Lily. I've said from the start of the euro problems that the euro as it stands is a failed experiment, and that it would be better to end the experiment in an organised fashion, than have it collapse in chaos.
It probably works fine as a common currency between the likes of France, Germany, etc., but one size does NOT fit all.

Don't apologise for it being the Mail, Lily, these things are always interesting. And that is very interesting indeed.
It was always going to get nasty when they started arguing about the War....
It's amazing that anyone could think a European army could work, it doesn't take much for the old enmity to start again. France and Belgium managed to fall out over the Battle of Waterloo this week. Belgium wanted to release a commemorative coin, France had a hissy fit due to them having lost said battle, and Perfidious Albion laughed at both of them.
