Kate McCann gets behind charity single which helps missing children reunite with their families
The campaign, which features 1980’s popstar Rick Astley, has already reunited three kids with their parents
KATE McCann is calling on Sun readers to get behind a charity single featuring a choir of parents with missing loved ones.
The Sun backed The Big Tweet last week during which celebrities including Simon Cowell, JK Rowling and Stephen Fry retweeted an appeal for a missing child every half an hour. Retweets reached over 100,000 over the 24 hour period.
Thanks to the initiative run by the charity Missing People three children have now been found.
Courageous Kate passionately backed the good cause which features several parents who have lost their children News Group Newspapers Ltd
Kate, who's daughter Madeleine vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007, now wants Sun readers to help make the charity single 'I Hope', which has reached number 10 in the Amazon chart, to hit the number one spot.
Speaking this week Kate, 47, from Rothley, Leicestershire, said:
“Madeleine went missing in May 2007. We continue to search and to hope. Thank you to everyone who has continued to hope too, it means a great deal to us. I know there are many, many other families across the UK who have the same hope as we do – to find their missing child safely, however long their disappearance and whatever the circumstances.
"In honour of International Missing Children’s Day which took place this week please download ‘I Hope’ – the beautiful single by the Missing People Choir.
"The choir is made up of families who have experienced a loved one go missing. Missing children are vulnerable. They all deserve our help. Please show your support.”
The Missing People choir includes the father of Lee Boxall who went missing in 1998, Nicki Durbin, whose son Luke has been missing for ten years, Sarah Godwin whose son Quentin disappeared in May 1992 and the father of Alice Gross who went missing for a month before she was found murdered.
Celebrities including Rick Astley have joined the families as have the Royal Mail choir.
All proceeds from the single go to the charity Missing People.
The single can be downloaded from iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.
