An appeal to the Supreme Court has been filed by the lawyer on behalf of the McCanns.

PJGA will assume the legal costs for Gonçalo Amaral, thanks to your contributions.

We remain confident, as always, that Justice will be served and Freedom of Speech, of Opinion and of Information will prevail.

So much for all the Team Gonzo drivel about the McCanns not daring to appeal.

What they don't seem to grasp is that actually, this is NOT about Gonzo's so-called 'free speech' - he is deliberately spreading outright lies about the family of a missing child.

He is NOT spreading 'information', he invented pretty sick propaganda. Which is why the decision of those three judges was so perverse, and flew in the face of established human rights in 21st century European democracies.

The reason so many people regard that verdict as crypto-fascist is that those judges put the rights of a disgraced ex-police officer to smear and lie about people above the protection of the innocent from smearing, lying, disgraced ex-policemen.

And if the Goncalettes cannot, or will not, see how perverse that is - that makes them lynch mobbers and witch burners.

Such classy people, these Gonzo-lovers.

This is basically about The Portuguese Justice System. That is what is perverse. Try getting away with that sort of thing in France.

Sabot, I can think of few modern democracies where a verdict like that could have been produced. Even in the US, telling outright, malicious lies about people and falsely accusing them of heinous crimes will cost you millions of dollars.

IMO, it goes to the heart of European human rights - the protection of the innocent from dirty cops. There are few things more important. It's no different to the lies told by dirty UK cops about the Hillsborough victims to cover up their incompetence.

Let's hope the McCann family don't have to wait so long for the courts to do the right thing and expose Gonzo for what he really is, and always was.

The judges indicated that the McCanns had voluntarily limited their rights to privacy by making themselves available to the national and international media to which they had easy access. In effect they opened the way for anyone to debate and express opinions about the case, including opinions that contradicted their own.

Port is as cretinous and regressive as those three judges.

1. Because their daughter was abducted, the McCanns immediately became the centre of a media circus.

2. Best, modern practise rules that publicity is VITAL when children go missing.

Someone must have forgotten to tell those three fossils.

Now, if they were talking about attention-seekers like Shazza Osbourne, or Jordan/Katie Price, or Katie 'sausage up my bum' Hopkins, they would have a point.

They'd even have a point if they were talking about Gonzo, and his seeming to live on assorted CartofMuck telly sofas.

You need to remember that this is country where a complaint against a public official can result in a criminal defamation action.

This honourable gentleman (cough) who has a conviction for being dishonourable. You can't make it up.

Besides ... any comment made about the way Amaral conducted himself in office (a reminder also that he breached judicial secrecy when he wrote his book) and post removal from the case, nicely falls into the category of free speech/comment. So he really doesn't have anything to sue the McCanns for.

He can however sue (yes I am saying it again!) his mates who have made an English translation of his book available on the internet for anyone to access, but he wont because he is a coward. He has said he will sue, but has done nothing about it, because these are his anti McCann campaigner mates, who are helping him to spread this misinformation and who are bankrolling him.


I would love to see the UK tabloids really go to down and do a FULL expose on Amoral.
