The McCann couple, Maddie's parents, the English girl missing in the Algarve in 2007, called for the nullity of the judgment of the Supreme Court of Justice, calling it frivolous "because it was not possible for the Public Prosecutor to obtain sufficient evidence of the commission of crimes by recurrent". The Supreme Court confirmed the decision of the Relation to revoke the payment of a compensation of 500 thousand euros by the ex-inspector of PJ Gonçalo Amaral.

In the opinion of those with an IQ greater than their shoe size (which excludes the hate squad) the 'judgement' was bizarre, making NO sense whatsoever legally, or ethically.

Any court which decides a convicted perjurer - Amoral - and a convicted torturer - de Almeida - are more 'honourable' than people who have never even been charged with any crime, deserves nothing but scorn.

Sauces in Portugal could not confirm rumours that the 'judges' trained at the Roland Freisler School of Jurisprudence.

Rising hysteria following the crushing defeat suffered by the parents of Madeleine McCann in the Supreme Court last month has been ratcheted up this weekend with news that the couple are now on the attack.

According to a report in today’s Correio da Manhã, the couple consider the court has been “frivolous” in upholding last year’s decision, on appeal, to free former PJ coordinator Gonçalo Amaral from paying any damages for his thesis on their daughter’s disappearance: the best-selling book “Maddie: The Truth of the Lie”.

Hounder Donn is in no position to accuse anyone of 'hysteria', as she is never done trying to whip up the hate squad with gossip, frequently baseless, gleaned from the hounders and other hate sites.

PS - there is always a 'higher authority' if 'judges' have done something so jaw-droppingly awful, they haven't just made the legal systems of your country look like asses.

But have managed to make your country's courts look like leftovers from the Middle Ages. I am surprised those 'judges' didn't suggest throwing the McCanns in the Tagus to see if they floated.

It was known they had 10 days to file an objection with court officials.

No, of course not, Lily, nor on any of the other good Portuguese people who are so often ignored by the screeching haters who like to pretend that the hatebloggers, 'wonderful translators' and others speak for Portugal.

I would like to know why the 'judges' overstepped their mark so badly. If they had stuck to some waffle about Gonzo's Free Speach, it wouldn't have drawn so much condemnation and disbelief.

The only reason I personally can think of for 'judges' making such a perverse ruling, flying in the face of the very bedrock of normal Human Rights law in 21st century Western democracies, is that there is something bad elements in Portugal are desperate to keep swept under the carpet?

Maybe they are so used to browbeating Portuguese folk, blathering on about 'honour', they thought they could do the same to the McCanns? Anyone who has even a passing interest in these matters cannot fail to notice the bizarre, illogical decisions handed down in Portuguese courts.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this; if the Portuguese Old Boys' Club further closes ranks against the McCann family, I can see the ECHR beckoning.

Amaral was relaxing this week in the Olivais region in the north of the capital Lisbon. A local who spotted Amaral dining told the Sunday People: “He rarely mentions it. We know who he is – everybody does.”

A shopkeeper added: “He comes to the newsagents and then goes to one of the restaurants here for lunch.”

Roadsweeper Enrique Gonzalez said: “It is popular with all of the police officers who live and work around here.

“He comes and talks about the old times.”

Basically the SC ruled that because they had once been arguidos that they should not be allowed to considered innocent becuase the case against them was shelved. Which is a crock of shit really when you think about it.

'Portuguese justice' in a nutshell. Maybe Portuguese courts should go properly medieval and bring back Trial by Combat, as they don't seem to be aware that this is the 21st century?

It is their right to challenge an outrageous written judgement which of itself defamed them. It is a pity you cannot take a step back and look at the likely repercussions of what these individuals said in their ruling.

There is no need to 'interpret' their meaning because they have been unashamedly unambiguous in their choice of phrase. Which has been picked up and reported verbatim in MSM and met with paroxysms of ecstasy from one end of the 'sceptic' network to the other.

Judges just cannot behave in the way these three have without their actions being called into question.

They are not a law unto themselves ... although they seem to think they are.

It is the twenty first century and Portugal is a player on the world stage as a modern democracy. In that context the rest of the civilised world must be looking at this judgement in complete puzzlement.
